Aussies! Check in here!

Elections always do my head in with the misleading advertising. I try to avoid it as best I can.

I also remember in high school when a can of coke was 18c and you could get a decent bag of lollies for 2c. Now that was a proper 2c worth.

I love looking back on things like that. When I was at primary school, it was 10cents for a box of strawberry milk. I loved that stuff.

So sorry to hear WQ - where do you think you'll end up? Surely there is someone you can stay with until you find something more permanent and fix up the van? I'm glad to hear you have more movement in your wrist now. At least that seems to be more positive for you.

I keep meaning to pop in and say howdy, but I've been sick for a month now. Rolling illness/virus/gastro and a plague of head lice (from my darling son) to go with it. I still feel itchy.

A few things have happened (other than the election). If I didn't think I was doing the midlife crisis thingy, I certainly am now. I bought a new car and have a new boyfriend. The boyfriend thing was kind of an accident. I wasn't really looking for anyone after how I was feeling after I broke up with the last boyfriend. I was quite enjoying my own time to myself. But then I joined a "nerd" group on Facebook and a guy messaged me...I had a momentary lapse of judgement and have now been seeing him for the last month or so! He's nice, but young. I'm not sure how long it'll last, but we're actually going out on "real dates" which is what I really want right now (and wasn't getting with the last guy).

My kiddo keeps getting diagnosed with issues, so weekends are filled with appointments with different specialists. He doesn't seem to mind much because he just wants to be with me. Which is nice and I'll take that as a win. And his teacher is really supportive, which is a double-win!

The winter rain seems to have set in here finally. It's been a gloomy day and looks to rain for the next little while. Hopefully there will be a little sun over the weekend.

Well, this is it.
I will be officially homeless in early Sept.
I have a lot to get done between now and then.....pack up and store my personal stuff somewhere, build the interior of my van, get the 2nd Perth delivery trip done in between....
Might have been procrastinating hoping for a miracle
Hasn't happened of course.
Life sure does move in strange ways!

Hey WQ :rose:

Well come Sept it will be a real test of your friends, separating the true ones from the false ones. On the positive side at least you get thru Winter. I'll be on the move myself late next year. Not sure what type of temporary accommodation I'll go for till I buy my next place. Certainly don't want a 12 month rental. Might try one of those van parks, the ones with cabins.

Hope all goes well in the coming months.

Afternoon all,

Well good news about Ash Barty winning the French Grand Slam. I kinda gave up trying to watch it when it was just repeats due to the rain delays. Then when I checked back it was all over. Anyway the main thing is that she won, which was excellent news. I saw the presentation ceremony.

Was annoying yesterday to get into a cold shower. The gas must have been turned off at some point on Friday when I was out. No doubt due to yet another tradie hitting a pipe. Had that a couple of times since all this construction of new houses has been going on in the last few years. Last time it was the water being shut off cause some idiot tradie hit a water pipe in the adjoining street. Retirement should lead to less drama, nope, well not until all this construction stops happening which doesn't look like happening anytime soon. There is apparently a housing slow down...not where I live.

Well the Nat's must be buying up lots of Finch Black paint. New jobs for backpackers no doubt.

Mining Rep: "Well as you can see the finch is thriving."
Reporter: "Isn't that bird a bit large to be a finch."
Mining Rep:" Ah..well that's a new species we found called the Black Throated Galah Finch...very rare."
Reporter: "I noticed those finches in the trees haven't moved for over 10 minutes, it's as if they were nailed to the tree branches."
Mining Rep: "Oh those well yes they're pining for the fjords."
Reporter: "Fjords...here in Queensland?"
Mining Rep: " Yep...the dry fjords, quite unique to FNQ, you people from the cities wouldn't of seen that. "

Well Rupert would not be happy about the raids on his people. ScoMo will have to kiss the ring the next time they meet. He might even get a summons. Of course he would of been happy with the raids on the ABC. Funny how those advocates of free speech on the Libs side haven't come out and spoken up about these raids. Jonesy and Tim Wilson have been very quiet. Seems they are selective on the free speech thing.. funny that.

The outrage from OS news organizations has been quite noticeable. Even news media in the US have come out strongly against these actions on the press here in our country. We made the news OS all for the wrong reasons again. Our international reputation keeps getting damaged by the clusterfucks in govt. People are having a rethink about the land downunder as being the backwards land.

More rain on the way from tomorrow here in Melbourne town and of course the heavy stuff is happening the day I have to go out for a scan so I'm going to get rained on a lot.

Hope the coming week is food for you, if not well there is always next week.

Great use of Monty Python. On the other point you are right, We are making the news around the world for all the wrong reasons.

Afternoon all,

So who didn't get soaked yesterday with that rain here in Melbourne town, dat be me. Had to go out for a scan in the morning and was lucky that the rain had just stopped before I arrived for the appointment then didn't come back till after I got home after shopping and it did bucket down. The ground was rather slippery in places. Had to help and elderly gent who slipped over in the carpark of the supermarket. Made him take a breather on the bench as he was in shock from the fall. One of those old blokes who still thinks he is in his 30's. He had a walker in the car but didn't think he needed to use it. Given the weather conditions that was a silly decision. Now he has to repair his trousers and deal with pains from the fall. The sun has returned today.

The credit card is getting a work out with all this medical stuff, which I guess is ok since it's been on a diet the last few months. Off to the dentist on Monday so more credit card work but also get a chance to buy hand made chocolates if I'm a good boy. Hopefully Melbourne's chaos on the PT network with all these upgrades doesn't fuck up the day.

Took advantage of the stocktake sales at my local Spotlight. Yep I know what you're thinking what's a dude doing in Spotlight well I discovered it's just like Bunnings except for chicks. Still feels a bit awkward when I'm looking at Manchester stuff, kinda like walking thru the ladies underwear section of the store trying to get somewhere else. Anyway got a number of bargains, although had to settle for pink flannelette sheets but did get them at half price. All the boys colours had gone which was a bit strange ….sexist right, especially in the push for equality.

Just heard that Adani has been approved. Oh the joy...can't you just feel the serenity of land clearing, water poisoning and birds going extinct. Jobs, jobs, jobs...well in the short term. Besides the Libs reckon you can buy a Black Throated Finch for $20 so what's the issue...wonder if that includes GST.

The weekend is looking fine here in Melbourne town for the weekend so it'll be washing time for all that new stuff I purchased on Tuesday. Hope your weekend is good for you.

Afternoon all,

So isn't this month just flying by. The lack of daylight has something to do with it. Just seems like the day passes quickly. Then again staying in bed longer shortens the day.

Congrats to the Matildas for winning their final group match. Now the real test begins.

Went to the dentist yesterday in the city and wouldn't you know it the trains played up again. I only visit the city twice a year so what are the odds the PT will fuck up on those days. Also caught up with some former workmates. We seem to be turning into old people since the first discussion is about the respective medical stuff that has happened since our last gathering. Never ask an old person how they are going....they will actually tell you. Just say hello.

As usual after my dentist visit I walked across the street to the chocolate shop and bought about $50 worth of the stuff. The girl serving me thought I was buying it as a present. She smiled when I mentioned it was for me being a good boy at the dentist. I obviously don't look like a retired dude since people just assume I've taken time off work to be there.

I usually walk thru the city on the way back to the train station. Found a new cheese cake shop with some nice cakes and also found my next video game purchase. Still playing the one I purchased last month. So many issues with it but I want to finish it so I'm persisting with it but definitely will be traded.

Lots of people in the city on Monday. Not sure why. Plus it was unofficially bring your school class to city day. Lots of school kids around the Arts Centre. Again not sure why. Luckily it wasn't raining on Monday unlike the last couple of days in Melbourne town. Most of the rain seems to be in the eastern suburbs.

Another early day tomorrow for yet another blood test. Oh joy. Having to use the alarm clock twice in one week, how annoying. Upside, well it is pay week. We are approaching mid Winter so the morning temps in Melbourne town are around 6-7. Had to laugh at the morning Winter temps in Darwin being under 20 which is considered as a cold night. So funny.

New initiative by the local council to ban e-waste from the general rubbish collection. Which is a good idea but then they should make it easier to dispose of e-waste. The definition of which is anything with a battery or cord. So lots of vibes have lost a home. Can imagine having to front up to the local collection point (which is normally nowhere near where you actually live) with a collection of vibes which obviously will be the job of the male partners.

Hope the rest of the week is good for you. Frost warning for Victoria so guys no peeing outside unless you want it to snap off.

Afternoon all,

Stayed up to see the Aussie men beat the old enemy. Really thought they had choked, well actually they did but the bowlers got them out of trouble. Something about England gives the Aussies issues. But they are into the semi finals.

Good to see another Aussie at No.1 in the tennis. Been a while. Reckon Ash has earned some time off. Going to the cricket seemed the thing to do.

Another cold morning here in Melbourne town. Have had to use the heater in the mornings just to get some warmth into the house. Although today we are having a heat wave of 17, it's even a bit warm in the sun.

Well the house next door is finally getting demolished after several years of waiting. That's 3 houses in a row that will have been demolished in my street which is not a very long street.

Just saw in the junk mail that Woollies is putting Kale in their meatloaf. Who the fuck asked for that crap? Have to read the labelling really closely these days. What next? Hummus in the vegemite!

Hope the rest of the week is good for you. The morning temps are predicted to get to 6 or 7 in the next few days. Yay.

Ok cold is in the Adelaide Hills.... -degrees of late and 4 ice days in a row. Kale in your meatloaf could be good for you, and please don't tell me you can taste it ;). What do you have against Hummus lol. I make my own , with a number of other ME treats like Tabouhli or Kofta or all three with some yiros bread. Yeah Im a Aussie, but the soft yiros bread is better than the lebanese in those circumstances lol. Each to their own, if it was just hummus and tabouhli, heat the lebanese bread in a microwave, split in half and add both. When you add the Kofta, yiros bread is, well like a yiros Mmmmm.

Morning, from chilly Tassie

I haven't checked in for a while, so lots to read.

Ash Barty is a bloody legend! She is the perfect antidote to Kyrgios (or however you spell it). Sorely needed in our sporting elite. Polite, determined and gracious..... and a worthy winner.

It has been extremely cold overnights for the past week - temps down around minus 3 and minus 4 (the 'feels like' temp has been down to minus 6.8!!!) Thank all the gods for a well operating heatpump!

So, I have yet another broken bone. Fractured my ankle on Sat morning and am currenty rocking an oh-so-fashionable moon boot. Tore all my ligaments and tendons at the same time, so I have a hugely swollen ankle with the most amazing array of colours blooming all round.
Could have been worse...... I could have refractured my just-healed 15 month left wrist break, lol

So, I am rapidly becoming used to forced idleness as I live in a 2 storey house on a sloping block. Can anyone say 'cabin fever'?

We've passed winter soltace, so we are that teensy bit closer to warmer weather again :)

Stay good and warm xx

Hiya WQ, so sorry to hear about your ankle hon, I really hope it heals quickly for you.

Just having a nostalgic moment, remembering when this thread would move so quickly most nights it was almost like a chat room, and soooo much fun.

I've met some great people from this site, both in real life and online Some I still catch up with on FB, some have passed on and are loved and my seed.

Good to see the thread continuing. Be happy

Well meat loaf isn't meat loaf if you add Kale. It's like parents trying to hide vegies their kids food that they won't eat on the plate. And nope Kale in meatloaf ain't good for you. What if they put it in meat pies? There would be an uprising.

Hummus reminds me of baby food, good for people with no teeth. Chickpeas are usually used to break a fast. My mum used to try to feed it to me in meals but I would only eat it with some spices. No issue with tabouli or koftas. There are just some combinations that shouldn't go together, like pineapple on pizza. The true Italians would never do that. Never saw that on a pizza in Italy.

Afternoon all,

I see the issue of yoga has come up again with all its different variations all of which are a Western thing. Yogi's in India don't do yoga as we see in the west. It's only meditation not all that movement. Ain't no downward dog there. As for hot yoga well that's BS as well. However it is a good money spinner selling a so called eastern practice in the west. Kinda like what we call pizza.

So if you really want to practice yoga, first step is to sell everything you own. Yep thought would get your attention.

Didn't see any Druids at the Winter Solstice. Must be too fucking cold even for them.

Jeez the CPI didn't do well in the last six months. All those people going to retire this year with their super will be disappointed. 0.5% is a long way from the forecasted 2.6% which is used to make the calculations on your super. Just shows the economy isn't doing well. But not to worry Josh baby reckons we'll have a $7 billion surplus this year. May be he should take up western yoga, a fake practice for a fake surplus.

Didn't get that much rain in Melbourne as was shown on the weather charts. It warmed up for a couple of days but it's turning chilly again.

Been watching the cricket and the soccer. Amazingly the Aussies got themselves out of the shit again in the cricket. Also Germany losing in the soccer must have been a shock to their fans. Lots of sports to look at in to the wee small hours. Luckily no need to get up for work.

Still thinking about my choices of cheese for the upcoming Le Tour. Tried a walnut infused cheese from Germany. Not many days left to make up my mind.

Hope your week goes well.

Hi People!

Fellow country person here - Central Vic, and also fecking cold. Only 2 months of this bullshit left before we can start to complain about it being too hot ;)

Anyway it's nice to 'meet' you all.

Happy Friday :)

My fractured ankle has been officially diagnosed as fractures, plural. Moonboot is stuck for the next 5 to 8 weeks, depending on healing. Yay. Not.

Isn't going to stop me from attending the next swingers party tomorrow night though! I am not going to waste what could be the sexiest Xmas in July costume I have ever put together, boot or no damn boot, lol. Actually, I found an ASO boot that I can wear for the night so I don't have to be in this clunker :) Just have to limit the time I am on my foot and be a little carefull.....
Besides, I don't need an ankle to play
And my new fwb (I have 2 now) tells me that since I am now down to a teensy 58kg, he won't have any problem carrying me up the stairs to the playrooms - and if he does, there will be plenty of people to help (confirmed 80 guests).
I have had to swap out the stilettos for a pair of flat thigh-high boots though

I had already packed up most of the fluff from my house before the fracture, so I am currently living very minimalist. Empty shelves and sealed boxes has shown me just how much superfluous 'stuff' I had! Some of the stuff I packed away may never see the light of day again.
I like having a lot less clutter. It's very calming

Anyway, time for me to go get my bag packed for my weekend away.....

Be good, have fun, and stay naughty xxx

My invitation must have got lost by Australia Post again.
What the address so I can gate crash the party.
I hope you take some photos of the party to show us.

Hey WQ,

Now you're thinking like a bloke when it comes to sex. Dudes won't care that you can't walk. Don't even need full use of your wrist.:D

I remember when I was renting for a short period in between houses, I kept lots of stuff still in boxes. Only unpacked stuff I really needed.

Hope the party was good.

Hi People!

Fellow country person here - Central Vic, and also fecking cold. Only 2 months of this bullshit left before we can start to complain about it being too hot ;)

Anyway it's nice to 'meet' you all.

Welcome to our little thread. Would offer you a white wine but I only buy the stuff when I get female visitors. I do have cheese however, purchased for watching Le Tour.

So which part of Central Vic? I was going to Ballarat this weekend but plans changed. Yep I know it's cold in those parts now.

Best way to engage here is just post stuff going on in your life. We is a friendly bunch we is.

Afternoon all,

Lots of sport to watch on TV at the moment. Plus Le Tour started last night so I have several cheeses at the ready. Must remember to buy more red wine this week. That 15 yr old at Wimbledon is doing extremely well. Really thought she was done for as I was going to bed in the small hours, so was surprised to find out that she won. Saw the Fed doing his thing last night. Has now got himself another record for the first person to win 350 matches at majors. And Ash just seems to be getting better.

Had a busy week just gone. Out nearly every day doing stuff. Usually these days I get out of the house once a week to do stuff. Only shave once a week. Not into the beard thing, way too itchy plus my mum might freak out. Also I have lots more grey these days so it will only make me look like a real pensioner. Currently I still have people asking me if I've taken the day off work when I'm out and about.

The rain is definitely on it's way here in Melbourne town. Has been dark since about 2pm. Can see the rain clouds gathering in the south from my lounge room window. So more rain is on the way this week which is good. Certainly has been a cold Winter thus far in the mornings. The window of warmth during the day only lasts a few hours. Of course if you have central heating you would be laughing, if you could afford to use it all day.

So the demolition works on the house next door keeps going. Had a couple of issues with the contractor so I'm keeping tabs on those. Have informed the owner. These guys are just sloppy plus they have pissed off a couple of the locals as well. So the sooner they get the job done the better for everyone.

More medical stuff to do next week. This year things just keep happening that requires my attention. I've had to replace several things in the past few months. Thus far nothing major but it hasn't been a restful retirement year. Will have to sort out the backyard before Winter is out. But on the positive side I keep losing weight. Downside, I have to buy new clothes. The new medication seems to be working but won't know for sure till later this month.

Saw an interesting movie on SBS last night titled The Hunt. An example of how someone's life can be ruined when people make assumptions and assume guilt. I wouldn't of been that nice to people who made those false allegations about me. Had a taste of that in working life and I was not impressed but I had the last laugh.

Hope the week coming is good for you.

Hi all,
Back in Oz after a week in the wilds of Ethiopia. Happy that it is blue sky here at last. It did take 2 hours getting through customs while they sprayed all my mining gear for bugs. Oz quarantine, plus WA special quarantine, plus south west WA zone quarantine. My boots look like they are brand new though now.
Happy they allowed my coffee beans through. That end of the customs hall smelled like a coffee roasters when they spread it all out.
All good, I'm glad they are strict over here. Some dimwit brought in an ornamental citrus from NSW two year ago and the Dept of AG is still going into people's backyards looking for gall wasp blisters on fruit trees. Had a notice in the mail while away that there was an outbreak two house up with a mandatory destruction order on the trees, so dreading having a look in mine this afternoon. I always laugh at the people getting pulled up by the sniffer dogs at the domestic terminals and copping a fine for apples and the like. You have to go past announcements on the plane, posters, domestic quarantine bins, before you even get to the luggage belt. Then the little beagle sits down next to them.

Good to hear there are still some wilds left in this world.

So no pat down at customs? Seems a long way to go for coffee beans :D

I remember coming back from the States thru Fiji. The woman that got on and sat next to me had no idea about customs. So I had to help her fill in her form. It was only as we were approaching Brisbane did she take out an orange from her bag. This is after she stated on her customs form that she didn't have any fruit. So I quickly got one of the flight attendants to take the orange away.

I've been to Fiji and lets just say their inspections lack a certain care factor.

I ticked off another couple of things on my bucket list

Lost my panties..... again.
3 parties, 3 pairs of knickers.
Seems that is to be my personal cost of attendance, lmao
I may just have to go commando next time!
