Brenda Mayes' civil rights lawsuit says her son was getting off the school bus in early February when the driver, John Naisbitt, closed the doors, trapping the boy's backpack inside as he dangled outside.
Naisbitt, 78, then drove approximately 150 to 175 feet before opening the doors and letting the boy go, the lawsuit says.
Naisbitt -- who is no longer employed by the district, per a spokeswoman -- had previously displayed "racial animus and discriminatory conduct" toward other students of mixed race, according to the lawsuit, which cites at least two prior incidents involving other students dating back to September 2017.
Reached by CNN affiliate KSTU at his home in Hooper, Utah, Naisbitt said he was "not at all" racist.
"No," he said. "Look at my dog. He's as black as could be."

Fine. Let the guy die and be eaten by his dog who will have to live with that guilt forever. And all of it could have been avoided if we all accepted that this guy is indeed 78 and doesn't look the healthiest. But whatever. I don't even know how you sleep at night.

He shut the doors on a line of standing kids, endangered them by moving the bus while they were queued at the door, to upset them and make them think that they were missing their stop. That's the sort of bullying that's unlikely to be a one off. He's a mean, petty man who feels contempt towards the kids in his care. There were other complaints. Why was he allowed to keep working?

When child welfare is involved, isn't the accepted action to suspend on full pay pending investigation? The bus company should be facing charges, and they should lose that contract.

I see one old bastard as less of an issue here than a system that allows him to continue. They should be doorstepping his manager!

I'm not contesting the fact that he might be racist too, alarm bells were raised in the past.

But in this case, I'm inclined to believe that it was more likely gross negligence.

He knew there are cameras in busses, he must have known that there would be serious repercussions. Most racists aren't self-destructive.
That, or hecwas seriously unhinged, but there was no mention of that.

Also: a serious incident like this must have been investigated by Police too, to see if assault or criminal charges would be applied.
