Anal is my favorite topic. I use lubricating jelly - a water soluble lubricant. I haven't experimented outside of that, but a friend recommended using Sliquid.

The local feminist sex shop recommends using any silicone or water-based, lubricant that is glycerin free. Tristan Taormino recommends using thicker water based lubes like astroglide gel, elbow grease's water based formula, embrace, kybrand ultragel and wet.

I like all-natural lubes. Coconut oil is nice, but greasy. If you don't mind that it's really lovely. Butter work very well, too—with the same caveat.

Those are spur-of-the-moment options. With forethought, my favorite is a water-based lube made from flax seeds.Easy to make, but it has to be kept in the fridge between times. But it's So slippery. And not greasy at all.

I love anal, been doing it a little over 15 years and my lube of choice has always been ID Glide..... After a good enema of course. Nothing ruins anal more than not being 100% cleaned out.

It seems like the choice of lube would also depend on what is going up there. For example, I understand that some lubes are not compatible with latex condoms or certain toy materials...

Probably a myth perpetrated by the commercial companies. Neither flax seeds nor coconut oil contain any measurable amount of sugar. In any case, I'm a lot more concerned about introducing unknown chemicals.
