Here is an example. We have poem

and the attached song is:

Let's have more.

**********************

Under the video, there is a translation of Okudzhava's "Paper Soldier" into English. It's possible to sing it! The translator's name is not given, too bad:

Once there lived a soldier-boy,
None handsomer or braver,
but he was just a children's toy
A soldier made of paper.
He'd change the world, or so he said,
for joy and peace he'd labour,
but he was hanging by a thread,
a soldier made of paper.

He'd bravely go through fire and smoke,
He'd die for you twice over.
But he was just a laughing-stock,
a soldier made of paper.
You wouldn't trust a paper guy,
With secrets or your favour.
And why is that? I'll tell you why,
'cause he is made of paper.

He challenged fate, prepared to die,
Marched on another caper,
"Ready, fire!" was his cry,
Forgetting he was paper.
"Forward march! We stand or fall!"
He, burning into vapour,
Died under fire for nothing at all,
'cause he was made of paper.

Enjoy

Mind blowing? It is courteous is it not to ask permission to use somebody else's poetry?

Oh come on you're not that thick and innocence does not become you. But then perhaps you have the same problem as me and can't see.
YOU ARE USING ANGELINE'S POEM IN THIS THREAD WITHOUT HER PERMISSION!!

No! No USING! Stop this nonsense, please. You act

I have honored Angeline's poem. I didn't even copy it, I simply have provided a link. We reference poems, e.g. by providing links to them, all the time!

By the way, UYS, in your first post in this thread you acted like you had an administrator hat on your head. That was abuse.

It is customary (and considered polite) to ask before using someone else's poem here. People usually ask via pm or email. It's a courtesy that gives the author a discreet out if they don't want the poem reposted. Perhaps you should have used one of your own poems.

Also I've moved your thread here to the Hangout as it seems more game-like to me and is not a poem-writing thread.

Finally, please note the following, especially the bolded material, from the PF&D Guidelines.

5. Do not threaten other users. Treat other users respectfully and do your best to make the poetry forum a supportive and welcoming place for everyone. Do not harass or belittle other users because they don't agree with you. Posts or threads that berate others may be moved at the moderators' discretion.

I know your health is fragile and I am sorry for this.

You already have censored me without any reason whatsoever (in another thread). No administrator has any right to censor like this. And now you keep abusing me. I have _ honored _ your poem. I associated it with a great-great poet and "bard",_ Bulat Okudzhava _ who means to me also a lot personally. We -- Okudzhava and I -- lived through the communist era. His wonderful and so deeply thoughtful songs and poems helped me and millions in those hard years. You, Angeline, act ugly. What's your problem? What's really your problem? It's beyond me.

Also I've moved your thread here to the Hangout as it seems more game-like to me and is not a poem-writing thread.

That's just your (very poor) opinion which had nothing to do with your administrative position. You had no right to do it. I totally disagree with you. Shame on you, Angeline. You act like an autocrat who has the law for nothing. (I said LAW, I didn't say AD HOC OPINIONS).

This thread,_ Attach songs to poems,_ has great poetic, artistic and cultural potential. Somehow, with your poor judgment, you need to take a break from being an administrator. You should recognize it, and you should quit. Now it's the time before you carry it too far.

Finally, please note the following, especially the bolded material, from the PF&D Guidelines.

Angeline, you're so false. I never attack people, I write about poetry, I translate poetry for this board also, I write critiques. I hear in return all kind of personal far from nice comments. And please, don't attempt to quote me out of context, I had enough without your sudden turn about the face.

Recently you yourself used an abusive language, with all your uncalled demeaning language and style, with propaganda newspeak words like "arguing" instead of "discussing", etc. True, others are still more crude and abusive, but you already have given a poor example, especially for an administrator. And you give a bad example to other administrators. Please, take a break, come back when you feel better.

[...] if they don't want the poem reposted.

Once again, I didn't repost anything. And it's not true that people need any permission to post a link. It's done around here many times a week, or many times a day when our poetic "business" is brisk.

Perhaps you should have used one of your own poems.

Now you, Angeline, are showing your mean streak. Your and some other participants' politeness is only skin-deep. A whim is enough for you to make a farse of politeness. I don't believe in such fake politeness.

Yes I know. You are the big victim here. As usual.

I'm not going to play these verbal war games with you. Just think about that forum guideline #5 and show a little discretion when you disagree. It is possible to do so without acting like a bully or trying to force your opinions on others.

I realize you will need to respond to this with shock and outrage. Knock yourself out if you want. I'm done though....not with the forum, just with this silly argument.

You're just mean Senna, I knew Angeline didn't want you using her poem without permission but you just had to make a big song and dance out of it and MAKE her answer you. Have you no compassion?

USP, I am compassionate. And now I want Angeline to go back to honest ways, to be decent again. That's why if she still has her self-respect, she will stop lying and her trickery, she will take a break and step down from her administrative post. It'd be nice if the moment before stepping down she would return the "Attach songs to poems" thread back where it was.

If I were asked privately or publically, in a polite manner, I would simply replace my post, where I've attached the wonderful and famous Bulat Okudzhava's song and Angeline's fine poem with another poem-song pair.

I still don't have any other candidate pair but I would find something; I hoped that by now people would post a lot of great poem-song pairs, it would be so beautiful. Instead of an excellent learning experience, we got this uncalled for nonsense. First, you, UYS, played an administrator falsely, and then Angeline went totally berserk in the most unattractive way.

Despite everything, let's hope for the best, that Angeline, and you USP too, will clear their deeds and allow reasonably clean air to let us breathe like people. And Angeline should have enough common sense and class to admit what she did without any excuses like poor health. Now I expect Angeline to act honestly and responsibly.

I don't know what "played an administrator falsely" means but my name has been up the top right as Moderator for 2 years now.

Poetic license. :)

In the context of this discussion, Administrator vs Moderator -- same thing (as they say, same difference :)).

In general, and on the Internet too, and on PF&D, it's important that people who have two or three hats which say: participant, moderator, administrator -- should always be aware of which hat they are wearing at any moment, and what it means. They should always wear only one at the time, never two or more.
