Trump evangelism is back in the news, with Mike Pompeo agreeing with the possibility God sent Trump to protect Israel from Iran. But what was really striking to me was this poll result from the Public Religion Research Institute. "[...] more than half (57%) say God played a "major role" in the 2016 presidential election."

That view is particularly pronounced among charismatic and Pentecostal Christians, a subset of evangelicalism that puts special emphasis on prophecies, believing that God is omnipotent, immanent and extremely active. That is, all-powerful and present in all areas of existence.

So where was God in the 1992, 1996, 2008,2012, all the elections Democrats won in? Sleeping?

They are an embarrassment to the country. Sadly, there are many of these types in the region where I live.

I'm just a bit shocked the percentage of respondents for God playing a major role in the 2016 presidential election was so high. At 57%, it's not only Trumplicans or even all Republicans saying yes. This view has to have some support across the political spectrum.

Hopefully the younger generations are a bit more rational.

Obama ran on anti-war and won a nobel peace prize for it, but he ended up bombing more nations than Bush.

I'm not going to skew my answer with politics, but what needs to be said is that we are lucky to live in a country where people can voice their opinions without fear of retaliation, imprisonment, torture or death. And that means that a lot of people will feel different than you or me or the gal who PM'ed you yesterday. In order to life in this sort of society, it becomes important to respect the other person's ability to have a different opinion. I'd much rather live here where others can express opinions I think are ridiculous, than live somewhere that I would be punished for sharing something that was not officially sanctioned.

I doubt there are many who would argue against freedom of religion, or more generally, belief. It's also a great thing that we live in a country where we're free to criticize zany and irrational beliefs.

Did God interfere to get Trump elected or to stop Clinton from being elected? Perhaps one disaster was preferable to another for some reason only He knows about. Or perhaps He was totally hands off and we created the entire 2016 fiasco ourselves.
It's questions like that that would be nice to know the answers to in the afterlife.
Also, did Martha Washington take it in the ass? I'm hoping to find out when I get to the pearly gates.
