Trump said big trade deficits proved our leaders were dumb – now he’s got the biggest one in US history

https://www.rawstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/donald-trump-5-300x161.jpg

As you may have guessed, the Commerce Department announced this week that the US posted an $891.2 billion trade deficit in goods last year, which was, according to WaPo, “the largest in the nation’s 243-year history despite more than two years of President Trump’s ‘America First’ policies.” (The overall deficit, at $621 billion, was somewhat smaller because we had a surplus in services, but it was still the biggest the US has run since 2008.) And as Philip Bump pointed out, while our trade gaps with some countries have narrowed, our deficits with China and Mexico, Trump’s bogeymen on the campaign trail, have actually expanded “dramatically” on his watch.

Oh well — he probably did as well as an intellectually challenged reality TV star could reasonably have been expected to.

Up 77% over last year! That's called Failing Biggley!

February Jobs Numbers: Could Be A Slowdown. Could Be The Weather. Could be DEMONS.

The February jobs numbers are out, and the only thing anyone can agree on is that it's kind of weird that following two months of solid job growth, only 20,000 new jobs were created in the economy, compared to a forecast of 180,000 new jobs by people who supposedly know things. So is this good news or bad news? What we keep seeing -- at CNN Bidniss, the New York Times, and Bigass Accountants R Us -- is that a single month's job numbers don't really mean a lot, since they could be a blip, who knows? Or maybe they could signal the END OF THE WORLD, because economix is funny like that.

Is the "Trump Boom" busted? Has it run out of Obama steam?:eek:

Trump to divert up to $385 million from crucial health programs to pay for ‘Government-sanctioned child abuse’

Alzheimer’s patients, lower-income preschool children, and HIV and cancer patients are among the Americans whose needs may go unmet so that the Trump administration can afford to detain thousands of migrant children.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar told Congress this week that he plans to divert $385 million from numerous healthcare programs to pay for detention centers across the country where more than 15,000 young undocumented immigrants are currently being held.

Misappropriation of funds? Impeachable?:)

Cindy (Li) Yang, a Florida entrepreneur who founded a chain of spas and massages parlors that included the one where New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was arrested recently for allegedly soliciting prostitution, also runs a consulting business that has offered to sell Chinese clients access to President Donald Trump and his family at Mar-a-Lago, according to the company's website.

I wonder how many prostitutes she supplied for Mar-A-Lago guests.

Republicans are having a meltdown over a House election reform bill that could kill them at the polls

On Friday, the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives passed a hefty, but badly needed, omnibus bill aimed at restoring American democracy after the beating it’s taken lately from big money and authoritarian interests. HR1, also called the “For the People Act,” has a series of provisions aimed at protecting the right to vote, muting the impact of big money spending on politics and strengthening ethics requirements for political candidates.

Mitch was so upset that he almost cried. "It's a power grab!" he said. Republicans wouldn't be able to win if the field is level! We can't compete without a cheat!

Mitch refuses to vote on it in the Senate!

Massage madam selling access to Trump creates ‘massive’ risk to national security: intelligence expert

If the alleged madam of a prostitution-front Florida massage parlor is indeed selling the Chinese access to the president, one intelligence expert noted, the story could be as dangerous as it is lascivious.

On Saturday, Mother Jones reported that Li “Cindy” Yang, the massage parlor’s founder who was photographed with Donald Trump and other GOP figures, also runs “an investment business that has offered to sell Chinese clients access to Trump and his family.”

But, but she has a nice face!

Jared Kushner ‘will eventually be exposed as an insatiably greedy Benedict Arnold’: Harvard Law professor

Senior White House advisor Jared Kushner was slammed on Saturday for being “the greatest domestic danger to America.”

It started with a Twitter thread by University of New Hampshire professor and Newsweek columnist Seth Abramson.

“Smarmy, slimy, smiling Jared Kushner of 666 Fifth Avenue is the beating heart of this unprecedentedly corrupt and deeply evil administration,” Tribe charged.

Professor Tribe has taught at Harvard Law for 50 years and tried 36 cases before the United States Supreme Court.

“He’ll eventually be exposed as an insatiably greedy Benedict Arnold,” Tribe predicted.

Bad Jared, bad, bad!

‘Hanging’s too good’: Journalist explains why Dems should skip Trump impeachment — and destroy him by other means

Of course we could try that but, then we'd have Pence to deal with. However as Keith constantly points out the Senate is filled with self centred scumbags that can not be trusted with their Constitutional duties.

“A point common to all the anti-impeachment arguments, though, comes right out of an old Western; as the lawmen used to say about the cattle-rustling varmint after he was caught, ‘Hanging’s too good for him’,” Gopnik explained. “In this case, impeachment is seen as too rarefied, too technical a proceeding to end Trumpism. Trump should be defeated at the polls; ejecting him in any other way provides too many opportunities for after-the-fact stab-in-the-back recriminations, and will only further convince his base that the ‘deep state’ conspired against him.”

So it's up to Bob/SDNY to save Congress from themselves.

Key GOPers rebel against Trump’s new budget over fears he will plunge government into another disastrous shutdown

The report notes that Trump will unveil “an audacious plan for sucking 5 percent from the budgets of non-military arms of the federal government while using an accounting trick to bust beyond set spending limits for defense programs. The 5 percent would be below the fiscal 2019 budget limits for domestic agencies.”

The combination of budget cuts along with using budgetary trickery that increases the national debt already has Republicans firing back before Democrats get their shots in.

Senate Appropriations Chairman Richard Shelby (R-AL) also said Trump’s budget is dead on arrival, explaining the Democratic-held House along with a Senate that loves to fund military projects will never buy it.

Losing the GOP one at a time, Trumpiekins:rolleyes:

It is time to end Mitch McConnell’s disgusting spectacle in the Senate

In case it wasn’t abundantly clear: McConnell himself circled, highlighted and double-underlined the problem of his “Scheduling Veto” so you couldn’t miss it. Responding to a question Thursday about why the Senate wouldn’t be taking up a House bill to fix partisan gerrymandering, increase voter turnout, and get big money out of electoral politics, McConnell answered with his trademark grin, “Because I get to decide what we vote on.”

Recent years are littered with wreckage of progress blocked by this “Scheduling Veto.” In 2013, for example, during the last period when the House and Senate were held by opposing parties, comprehensive immigration reform was popular (supported by between 70 and 80 percent of Americans), bipartisan (passed the Democratic Senate with significant Republican votes) and had a real possibility to become law (President Obama said he had the votes in the House to pass it). However, then-Speaker of the House John Boehner refused to schedule a vote in his chamber.

Time to remove the stain on the Senate's bib.

Mike Pence cornered as Dick Cheney slams Trump’s foreign policy initiatives

Former Vice President Richard B. Cheney warned Vice President Mike Pence against the dangers of President Donald Trump’s foreign policy, according to a report from The Washington Post.

Cheney said that the rest of the world is losing respect for America as a result of Trump.

“At the closed-door retreat hosted by the American Enterprise Institute on March 9 in Sea Island, Ga., Cheney respectfully but repeatedly and firmly pressed Pence on a number of the president’s foreign policy decisions,” the report said.

“Cheney also worried aloud to Pence that ‘we’re getting into a situation when our friends and allies around the world that we depend upon are going to lack confidence in us,’ and then offered a blunt criticism of the current administration’s response to foreign policy,” the report said.

When Cheney says "You're doing it WRONG," you have fucked up!

"Cheney said that the rest of the world is losing respect for America as a result of Trump."

I'm pretty sure that horse has already left the barn.

I remember when President Bill Clinton was still respected by those on the left for his being pro-choice and wanting to raise taxes, and Bill's defenders insisted that his sexual behavior was none of our business! My, how that has changed! Today, liberals like phrodeau & Jack Luis would be loudly demanding that Clinton resign the presidency! It's no wonder support for his wife was so shallow in 2016. After all, she enabled him, didn't she?

As for Mitch McConnell... well, that was President Obama's doing. The enormous unpopularity of the president's 2009 health care legislation DESTROYED that once huge Democratic Party lead in the U.S. Senate, resulting in McConnell becoming the Senate Majority Leader after the 2014 elections.

Some people expected the "2018 Blue Wave" to end Mitch's reign, but they overlooked the disgust that the American people had for Senate Democrats in the aftermath of the Brett Kavanaugh U.S. Supreme Court confirmation fight! Democrats like Corey Booker & Kamala Harris jumped to the defense of Dr. Christine Blasey-Ford, and in doing so DOOMED their colleagues running for re-election in states like North Dakota, Missouri, & Florida!

Instead of Trump's party LOSING senate seats, he GAINED two instead! Mitch remains the majority leader, and when this president has to pick a new justice to replace Ruth Bader-Ginsburg sometime in the not-too-distant future, the Republicans will have a MUCH easier time getting the president's nominee confirmed! As for Dr. Christine Blasey-Ford, she may STILL get to deliver the keynote address at the 2020 Democratic National Convention!

OF COURSE you do. It serves your disgusting agenda. I don't remember anything like that. What is disgusting is you trying to use fake "whataboutism" in the current situation. Shame on you. You put yourself in the same sewer with Trump.

I didn't begrudge Bill a BJ, and it was his lying about it that got him impeached, well and his general unpopularity with the RWNJ's in the Congress.:)

At least he could/would balance the books. Your Lumpy is a bit weak in budgeting. :)

KeithD writes: "OF COURSE you do. It serves your disgusting agenda."

You make a good point, Keith. NONE of the Trump-haters EVER write anything to serve their disgusting political agendas. They personally LOVE the man, but simply disagree with some of his political beliefs.

JackLuis writes: "I didn't begrudge Bill a BJ, and it was his lying about it that got him impeached..."

That is all very true.

"At least he could/would balance the books. Your Lumpy is a bit weak in budgeting."

If America's voters ever begin taking things like "balancing the budget" seriously, Jack, we'll never see another Democrat elected to high office again (except for that party's ongoing attraction with bringing more Muslims to Washington!)

KeithD replies: "Cindy Yang. Cindy Yang."

It would appear to me that you're FINALLY coming around to my way of thinking, Keith!

Well "W" and Lumpy sure did/have paid down the debt a "Hole Lot" you know Wars are so fucking cheap these days and cutting revenue is an excellent way to "fix it Forever". If Democrats don't have to unfuck the "Rethuglican economy" every time it might be easier.

Here’s how Trump could be prosecuted just like mobster Al Capone

A New York attorney is proposing that Donald Trump should be prosecuted via his taxes — just like the infamous mobster Al Capone.

First, Wachtel noted, is the fact the president paid his former “fixer” Michael Cohen $420,000 — payments that, altogether, require a 1099 tax form and result in a misdemeanor if that form is not filed. While it’s unclear to the public if that form was filed, prosecutors can easily find that out by looking at Trump’s tax returns.

“The big one is the tax evasion,” he said. “If $420,000 was treated as a business expense and reduced the amount of taxable income to Donald Trump, that would be tax evasion. That’s a five-year count.”

“If you gave me the tax returns for the relevant period, it would probably take me about 15 minutes to tell you, for sure, that a crime has been committed,” Wachtel concluded.

Well five years would be a Life Sentence for Lumpy.:D
