Is anyone else's story taking a long time to submit?

I submitted a story on 2/21, 17 days ago, and it's still pending. It hasn't been rejected due to poor quality or anything, but on the FAQ it says stories usually take 3-7 days or so to be approved/rejected for breaking a rule.

Did I do something wrong or was there just a flood of submissions right before I submitted mine and they just haven't gotten to it?

It definitely is in the pending tab, and the words under it are 'pending'.

I thought about deleting it and resubmitting, but another thing on the FAQ is that: "Stories and poems are approved by date, oldest to newest.... hits SUBMIT again - that submission is moved to the end of the queue."

Try sending a polite PM to Laurel, saying exactly what you've said here. You are unlikely to get a reply, but your story might suddenly go live. There was a site upgrade a week or so ago, your story might have dropped through the cracks then. If it hasn't gone live in, say, three days after a PM, then I'd resubmit - with a note to the editor.

Another bit of advice...

Every time, not saying you have done this, you look at your story in preview mode and then click on the submit button, it goes to the end of the queue.

Also, if your a new author, your story might take a little longer. Not 17 days, but the long side of 3-7 days.

Well, I did make the stupid mistake of not hitting the 'submit' button for the first nine days (meaning that I first put it in around 2/13, but I then actually hit the submit button at 2/21)

And yeah, I have published a few stories before, but it's always taken from 7-9 days, never this long.

It's only when I click the submit button, right? Not if I just look the story up in preview?

As long as you don't click the submit button, you're okay. I have found myself hitting the save button by mistake, which just makes it a draft. Had to go back and preview it and then submit it.

PM Laurel or just re-submit it.

Mine have generally cleared in two or three days over the last thirteen years and in all the various accounts I use (mostly to keep genres separate). If one goes over a week without being posted (which has happened maybe three times), I send a polite PM to Laurel and it's always then posted the next day as submitted.

Not sure what happened with mine last month, but it took less than 24 hours from submitting to being posted. I guess I hit the submit button at just the right moment.

But like the others have said, either pm Laurel or just submit it again, that should get it moving.

Didn't want to say anything, but my last three were posted within 12 hours of submission. The category was Sci-Fi and none of them had any sex in them.

A lot of people have been saying their work takes longer to be posted.

And each day, there are a ton of new stories being posted (especially incest).

Logically, that means there are a ton of people submitting stories, so it only makes sense that it takes longer.

The alternative is that every story gets posted within 3 days, and each day there is a giant flood of stories.

It isn't just a flood of new stories. It seems increasingly that writers here want to edit their stories, often for simple typos, nearly always for mistakes they made in the first place. Each of those edits takes up the same or more time to get processed and posted as a new story does.

My stories, including my last one, have always taken about 7 days whereas the stories by a friend always get published in no more than 48 hours. I’ve got used to it and can’t see the point in making a big deal about it. Hopefully, at some time in the (near) future my stories will fly through as quickly as my friend.

My last story, published 18/3, took the usual week. My friend sent in their latest story three days after mine was published and it emerged 48 hours later. C’est la vie.

Mine was Romance category and we all know I never write about sex :D hehehe
I thought maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was chapter 10 of my series and so far I've never written anything that was deemed taboo by Laurel so maybe she just went ahead and okayed it quickly.

Anyone know how soon before publishing that the date replaces PENDING please?
My observation is, once a story goes off "pending" it will go live on the next midnight server run - which someone has said is east coast US time (I think). My stories all seem to go live mid-afternoon, but I'm in Oz, so it's a completely different time zone.

Once the pending changes to new, it will go live after midnight Eastern time that night :D I think it's Eastern? I'm central and numbers make my head hurt so yeah...

Thanks to you both.

Not that mine has a date - it's still grey pending - but I had read about a seemingly mythical date which would appear at some time...

The first wave of new stories go up at around 9am GMT here, I think, but there's usually a second lot added a short time later, isn't there?

I'm still convinced it was something Little Shit did when he walked across and later sat on the keyboard. all while I was on the submission screen, which has made it take so long this time.

A date does eventually appear, and I think it's the date it will be posted. I swear my mind is made of swiss cheese and everything that enters it falls out pretty quickly.

I just submitted my latest chapter 2 hours ago, so let's see how long it takes. Hopefully not long, and not because I'm impatient, and yeah I am, but more so because I've been slow about submitting chapters and I feel bad for anyone that may be following the series. Ideally, I'd like to submit one every two weeks, but I always have something come up :/

If mine went longer than ten days, I'd probably just go into edit mode and then resubmit it, wait to see if that jumpstarts it, and then wait another week or so and pm Laurel.

That was my thought also, I always warn the read if there is no sex in the story in a note up front. Plus, I haven't tried to sneak anything past her royal majesty. Besides, I don't write stuff that may be rejected.

And maybe Sci-fi was short of stories and along came mine. :D

Actually the date doesn't replace PENDING, NEW replaces PENDING. I have one in pending queue that now says NEW which means it will go up tonight after Midnight some time tonight.

As for a date. The date used to be the submission date displayed, but they have changed it to the date it was published. The database does have both dates plus a whole bunch of other dates associated with the entry.

A-ha, thanks.

It's still pending. I've dropped Laurel a PM, but she doesn't seem to be around here much any more. (I thought she used to hang out a fair bit on the General board?)

I have a feeling it's down to returning to edit the note section directly after I uploaded it (I haven't touched it since - I don't want to go into it as I know that'll return it to the bottom of the waiting list), and whatever the dog may have done, dancing on the keyboard.

Just to rub it in, when did you upload your new story please?

The story I submitted yesterday is marked for posting tomorrow. So, two days again.

Mine is up tomorrow, Yay!
Eight days. Have a few days to sort out my contest entry now. Got a wicked idea.:D

Yeah, but it is my own fault as I've been busy doing other things besides writing.
