Any other writers turned on by erotica in a variety of historical settings? Particularly Victorian England or the ancient world :)

The more prudish the public demeanor of the nobility, the hotter random depravity seems. Plus, there's really no such thing as swimsuits, and washing is done in a tub in the middle of a big room, with servants present... and those soulless peasants, they really knows no shame.

Absolutely lupus you got it! ;)

Paging Poster oggbashan, Paging Poster oggbashan, you're need in Story Ideas, STAT.

As my user name suggests, I mainly write fiction set in the past, but I haven't written anything further back than the 1920s. I wouldn't mind writing a story set in the Victorian, Edwardian or World War I eras, but have not done so as yet.

I've a couple of circa-1890 westerns and a couple of medieval settings. I've started a series of an inept time-traveler: he searches for Eve but finds Lucy and a Yeti; he seeks St Mary but finds Cleopatra; he aims for St Joan and ends up with Catherine de' Medici.

And I'm slowly cooking a tale of an actual Old Hollywood pioneer with 1920s backstage sex. All those naked women on the Pismo Beach set of the 1925 Ben-Hur! And their lesbo Latin lovers! Historical pr0n can be fun. No cellphones or antibiotics. Watch out.

The problem with 'period' sexual goings-on is that most people had to work dawn to dusk and, as noted, had no privacy whatever. Oh yes, sex certainly happened (we're here, after all), but the extended sex bouts so popular in modern erotica were probably just not possible.

The nobility of the time had (and still have) a randy reputation, but I suspect it was (and is) only because they were the only ones with the time, money and privacy for anything more than speed-humping. Given a private room and a guaranteed source of food, I'm sure the peasants would have indulged themselves equally.

Bottom line as I see it is that you either write about the nobility or else write unrealistically about the peasants or else write really boring fiction.

and the reputations to protect to make for a great story!

Great to see the interest in this, thanks guys! I’ll definitely be checking out some of your stories. Always open to a cheeky pm too ;)

Before factories and time clocks, most peoples around the world had workdays much shorter than what we now consider 'normal'; and pre-modern Europe featured many many feast days and similar holidays, giving workers much free time, some of which included orgies, private or public.

People fuck and make more people. That's the way of the world.

That didn't stop the characters in my Dark Ages Arthurian myth thing...

The Crowned heads of Europe

Just take an Encyclopedia Britannica entry. Add some fun dialogue as suggested by the text. Post in the Incest/Taboo section.

Reality is better than anything I could invent.
