I don't believe a candidate can avoid an endorsement. If a klavern somewhere says "Vote for Smith" there's not much Smith can do abut it. He can say "Don't vote for me," but that would defeat his purpose. Smith can object, but can't prevent the KKK from favoring him.

An important bit that will be missed.

Former President Barack Obama and ex-first lady Michelle Obama held the most bipartisan appeal as they finished near the top of the list for independents, who tended to view most political figures negatively.

It should be noted that depending on the study you pick celebrity endorsements usually pull down both the candidate and the celebrity. You also need to match the right celebrity with the right person/product. Hence why everyone hates Kim Kardashian.

The LAST TIME a Ku Kux Klan endorsement mattered to a candidate was back in the days when the Democratic Party dominated the American south, and the KKK actually had some serious political muscle there. But as the Democratic Party's power waned in that region, so did the power of the Klan. Today's Democrats are WEAK throughout the south, and the power of the KKK is all-but-nonexistent.

I mean, OF COURSE a Democratic Party endorsement is going to be harmful to Republican candidates, just as a Rush Limbaugh endorsement would seriously hurt anybody running in a Democratic Party primary! I DID find it interesting that Tom Brady made the Independent list, only because I've never known him to make political endorsements or campaign for anybody running for office. But yes, his Superbowl-champion Patriots are widely hated by pretty-much every football fan outside of New England.

But he should retire now, while he's still on top, like Peyton Manning did in his final season with the Broncos. It wasn't Peyton's quarterbacking skills that defeated Cam Newton & the Carolina Panthers in Superbowl-50, but the Denver defense. In New England's OT win against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship, it was the Patriots' running-game most responsible for their victory, and their DEFENSE is what destroyed the Rams in last Sunday's big game.

Also, what "curse" have the Patriots ever been under? If we're talking curses here, I'd argue that the Browns, Lions, Bills, & Vikings all have much more serious curses plaguing their programs! The first two have never even made it as far as the Superbowl, while the latter two have a combined 0-8 record in the big game!

Back in 1918 or so, Babe Ruth sank a piano in a pond in Marlboro. They never won another Super Bowl until a new housing development dredged the pond as part of their landscaping.
