Will any Republicans challenge Trump for the 2020 nomination?

No incumbent president has faced a primary challenge since 1980, but this is a highly unusual situation.

John Kasich is making all the appropriate noises. If he follows through, is anyone's guess. More likely to try some centrist independent bullshit. Maybe team up with Bloomberg after his bid for the Dem nom fizzles out.

A centrist Republican running as an independent in 2020 would make the establishment sweat, and be great political theater.

There will no doubt be some RINO's out there giving the "Let's just do whatever the (D)'z want to make it easy!!! Whaddaya say? Pitch to the people dumb enough to think that's a centrist position.

The only chance Kasich might have is if Trump gives into pelosi and the RW just gives up, moves out and lets the US slide into being another generic socialist shit hole. Probably ask the EU to come take 80% of all our shit for "the greater good".

More like, "Let's take the only possible shot we have to hold the WH for the GOP!" If Trump gets the nomination, he has no chance of reelection. Vermin Supreme could kick his ass.

Never since 1964 has the American conservative movement shown any sign of giving up. Instead, it continually mutates into more radical and astonishing forms.

I don't think either of those men would settle for a VP position.

Personally, I would think any Republican making noise about running against Trump in 2020 is actually building a foundation for a 2024 run. Unless Trump felates Putin on the White House lawn by the end of the year, running against him would be suicide.

For the candidate, perhaps. But not running against him would be suicide for the party.

I will be very surprised if Kasich does not run. That said it will all come down to polling around 500 days out. When (if) Tiny loses this wall thing and when (if) the Mueller report goes public it will be a pretty solid 1-2 punch that will invite a challenge. Still - It is really difficult for me to imagine Tiny losing the primary. Too many people have left the GOP and the remainder is just the racists and the deplorables.

In the slim chance it is President Conversion-Therapy seeking election I'd put the over/under at 8 and wager on the over. Especially if he endorses federal funding for electro shock to git the gay and the debil out of people.

The bigger concern for Tiny IMO will be a center-right independent in the general, or a credible Libertarian (Bill Weld type not Johnson again) to throw a state or three to the D's by siphoning off the so-called RINOs and "Regan Democrats"

Jim Mattis (Mad Dog 2020 anyone?) would go a long way at restoring order and respectability back to the Republican party even though he has zero interest in running. Trump can keep his fanatical base and it would help stave off the slow drip of decreasing military support. He is one of the few that could do it without fear of career suicide and a push to return to traditional conservative values might even pull in some of those that feel pushed out of the party by crazy.

Imagine the debate where Mattis threatens to kick the living shit out of Trump on stage.

"Insult me one more time you fucking imbecile and I'll walk over there and beat the stupid off your face! It's a lot of stupid so it might take some time."

You're confusing conservative voters for radical socialist Democrat voters again.

Red America doesn't have the same thirst for totalitarian equity seeking that you and the (D)'s do.

Never since 1964 has the American conservative movement shown any sign of giving up. Instead, it continually mutates into more radical and astonishing forms.

It's not the right who's mutating bubba....it's the left going from social liberals to democratic socialist.

You all really think Trump will still be president in 2020?

I think that depends more on who the (D)'s run than if the (R)'s nominate anyone.

If they find clean nobodies who just beat around issues without taking any real stance beyond "fuck the upper 50%!!" and a willingness to comply with the DNC?

They have a decent chance.

If they do something dumb like running an ancient establishment (D) with who knows how many years of political baggage? I wouldn't count Trump out yet....fly over country aka "dumbfuckistan" is still really white, liberal/conservative and not at all amused by anyone with a history of vowing to check white privilege with socialistic class warfare via heavy taxes and regulations. ;)

And it is the (D)'s who are going to have to do the winning back/reaching out to their much loathed openly hated white (D)umbfuckistani folks....because they can't win with 14 states, not even with a 10 million vote lead.

Gawd Bless America

It doesn't, I just assumed he meant after the 2020 election.

I have noticed that many people here are quick to jump someone's shit without understanding what they are replying to. Under no circumstance could you have possibly thought he meant that considering it was a single sentence and his intent was in plain sight.

I meant what I said. Trump’s term runs into January 2021. I was surprised that every comment in this thread assumes he will still be president in November of 2020. I’m not saying that I’m certain he’ll be ousted or resign before then, but I certainly wouldn’t bet my house on him surviving that long.

No.

Nobody got their shit jumped.

And now you're telling me how I think....making up what you want instead and going with that.

No, not in this thread.

No, I'm telling you that you're lying and it's quite obvious. It's also obvious that you're one that shuns personal responsibility for your words and actions. It's also obvious that you're someone who should never talk about someone else not being an adult.
