I had a noir film phase a few years back. Its amazing how well an actor's performance could carry a movie in those days.

Double Indemnity
Big Combo
Strangers on a Train
North by Northwest.

Other than that? Probably the Kirosawama movies. Yojimbo and Throne of Blood were my favorite. Toshiro Mifune steals my heart.

and-it's alive! everybody hates babies anyway, to have a demonic mutant baby as the monster, even in a cheapo stinko movie, is a cinematic milestone.

The Big Sleep. Now there was a movie. The story was so convoluted, and subject to so many script changes, that the actors had no idea what was going on. And yet it works!

BTW, it's not made clear in the movie, but in the book, that mysterious bookstore is in the pornography-rental business.

The Cat From Outerspace! I loved that movie! I need to find it.

Beau Geste would be my one addition.

I remember stuffing handkerchiefs under my baseball hat and playing we were in the French Foreign Legion as a kid.

how could i possibly have left out "pink flamingos" and andy warhol's "trash"?????

Cool thread. Most movies mentioned are classics - (I'll just add Brian DePalma's Carrie and Sisters.)

This list was my favorite - particularly the animated movies - 101 Dalmatians and The Jungle Book. Hard to believe that they were produced in the 60's! they still have that modern feel.

There are too many Musicals to list them all.

I wonder if that genre will ever see a rebirth?
