Why Trump will win the shutdown

I think Trump does have the edge in this shutdown battle but not for the reason the author suggests. He has the edge because if he's not a sociopath, he seems to exhibit the all the classic signs of one. He said himself that he has no regrets, ever. That means he has no conscience.

Personally, I find that scary, but in a fight like this, it's his strength.

He'd rather run the country into a hole than look foolish. He was willing to at least consider a compromise on the wall until Fox, Coulter, Rush and the gang started hounding him about it. He knows his pet media can be scary when riled so he flipped without a blink and even increased his demand. He's a puppet of his own media. Amazing. He really is a reality TV star, I'll give him that. Too bad we need a president.

We are being dominated by a minority. I can't understand how that is a good thing. If this is the way the framers of the constitution intended for our country to be run, then it's time for a constitutional convention. The fucker is broke.

As strange as it is, it's possible to be both a sociopath and still be a productive and functioning person, who can still have a positive impact on society. I hesitate to say "it is possible to be a sociopath and be good", but it's possible to be a sociopath and still be beneficial, and not destructive. President cheeto isn't that though.

Probably not something like a full on wipe slate clean and replace for sure, but I suspect Dems would make serious changes if given the chance. Certianly, a new way to pick a president would be on their minds. There would probably be some additional declarations of positive rights too. A smart team of left wing reformers could make explicit in the constitution rights they already believe to exist, so as to prevent judges from invoking judicial review against their policies.

We changed our minds about who gets to vote (several times), how senators are chosen, alcohol use (twice), and so forth. Changing the constitution is hard, but not impossible.

It's really the only solution I see. Enough GOP senators turn out to approve a budget and override a veto. Many GOP rank and file have a track record of not understanding the causes of their own economic problems, but maybe GOP leaders won't be so daft when it affects the industries that support them personally, and the shut down energizes the left in their states.

It would also involve allowing them to vote, and that would mean McConnell would have to not block it. Not sure what would motivate that.
