anyone have any experience posting in that section?

i have a story in mind that is a true experience i had some years ago. briefly, what was supposed to be a sex hookup turned into something really absurd that involved the discussion of sex but no real physical action. the whole experience felt like a kind of mental slapstick.

a little while ago i recounted the experience to someone and when i was finished and he stopped laughing at me, he said, "you have to write that down!"

would the story fit, even though it has no overt sexual activity?

Fewer readers and votes and lower ratings. Humor and sex don't mix well for a lot of readers apparently.

Stories (even funny ones) lacking explicit sex CAN survive outside Non-Erotic and Humor. Talking about sex may be enough, if well-written. What category could you shoehorn your tale into? If there WAS explicit sex, where would you post? If the talk is of cheating, you could brave the haters of LW. Is it interracial? Fetishistic? Incestuous? Sadomasochistic? Talking about gangbangs?

I'd drop your story into another category, as it sounds like a sex yarn with a funny twist.

Humor and Satire is more for piss-takes and spoofs, and deliberate attempts at wit. I've had two satire pieces run quite nicely (some people actually "got it", which is part of the point; the humourless never will). The best content I've seen there is fast and pithy, taking sex in a very light-hearted way. It's not for wankers ;).

i guess the closest match would be "first time" or something of that sort. i was prepared for quick mindless sex, my date had a whole different agenda in mind. it's too bad there's not a "twilight zone" section.

this is why i was undecided as to fit. it would in no way be a stroke story and the humor is all in the absurdity of the situation. that might fly right over some heads.

As one of the "founders" of the humor and satire category, I would say your description sounds like a perfect fit.

(My story Two Bags For The Bride was written as an excuse to tell ugly jokes and was a major element in the decision to create the category.)

The category is for ANY submission that is intended to make people laugh. If you make people laugh, you don't need sex or violence to keep their interest.

I have tried the humour section - with mixed results. But humorous stories in other categories seem to do quite well.

My personal view on sex is: if you can't laugh, you're probably not doing it right. :)

You can be sure that a lot of things are going to go over some heads, but you're never going to please everybody (easy to say of course; a little harder to actually deal with the results).

It sounds like a promising story. You might consider the First Time category too. My own entry in Humor went over well and I'm considering another one.

I'm just about to drop another one in there myself. Writers here often say, "I want to try a story in every category," so I've bundled all of my tries in one place. Light and fluffy (one or two are a bit dark), and finding the nuance for each category was a bit of fun.

If you want to write a story then write it. If you are happy with it then put it in the category you think it should be in. What other people think doesn’t matter, only you and your readers. You write for you not other writers.

I've been thinking of some character, perhaps played by Lee Marvin or George C. Scott, lecturing to us Literorica members, "Are you people writers or a bunch of middle-schoolers trolling for 'likes' on Facebook?"

Stephen Leacock, the Canadian humourist, once defined a Canadian as someone "who, when faced with a choice between heaven and a lecture on heaven, would always choose the lecture." I do think there is room for a similar situation regarding sex.

Then they slap our faces and put us down for a hundred pushups. Our revenge: Fit them into LW stories as wimpy cucks. BBCs are likely involved. Moral: Do not bite the hand that writes you.

IMHO Humor hosts pieces that amuse an author who doesn't care if nobody else reads them. Is the Humor audience larger than Poetry? Such entries might grab at least a dozen readers, maybe twenty.

Authors get to decide why the fuck they bother posting here. To grab eyeballs? For high scores? To hone thy craft? For self-abuse? To rant? By compulsion? Some categories support any of those. Pick the area that suits your needs.

There are so few stories with so few views that I don't write in this category, despite most of my stories containing humor to some degree.

I tend to stick to the category that best suits the story, for example my 'PTA Queen Bee & Teen Rebel' stories are black comedies, but I put them in the Lesbian category.

That's probably a wise choice. The Humor and Satire category was created for stories that are humorous, not for stories that "include humor to some degree."

One of my other stories, How I met My Wife is based on an absurd situation but the overall story is Romantic; despite the humorous premise it is posted and doing well in Romance.

One thing I have noticed.

If you describe a story as 'Humor' someone will not see any Humor in it at all. You don't tell a joke by announcing:

"I'm going to tell you a really funny joke..."

I say go for it!

My highest-rated story is in that category and I only posted one time there. You don't get the views and you don't get a lot of comments, but there is an audience that appreciates and looks for it.

I would say go for it. As the adage goes, "You won't know until you try."

I have one story in there that wasn't outright slapstick humor but more my snarky, eye rolling personality exposé and it did rather well with views, votes and comments (5800/122/10). I feel like if your story is funny, even if it is lacking in some overt sexuality, it will do well. There are plenty of stories in multiple categories that don't have sex in them that do great.

Now I'm kind of wondering what type of reader goes to the Humor and Satire section with the intention of knocking one out and not simply reading something amusing.

There are such things as writers' boot camps. Maybe we need R. Lee Ermey to get us into shape.

I pretty much only post on the Humor board. I hardly get any comments, but the scores are nice.

I’d recommend you write the story first and then decide where to post it

That's one approach. Another is to pick a category first and write for it. Another is to write something weird, post it to somewhere, and let Laurel pick the category. Or post to LW and watch the fun.
