I don't know that their deployment was classified, but even if it was he can declassify anything he wants.

They do typically maintain operational security though, particularity by not releasing identities, like by blurring faces.

My understanding is that he wants it known that we are fully operational with troops who are in Iraq and Afghanistan and can quickly respond to anything that happens in Syria even if our troops are not in that country.
