Why have Republicans stopped bragging about the stock market?

Every time Donald tweets...the market drops. Get a clue...stop tweeting. I hate to tell you, the market is not like a golfer.

I think investors are starting to realize just how bad Trump and his administration are. The kind of sustained chaos that Trump wants is not a friend to the market. It looks like their patience has worn out.

The problem with Trump (or a problem; obviously there's more than one) is that he still thinks he's in show business and his main audience is the crowd that reads Page Six. In his world, unpredictability, suspense, a staff that's always fighting and always on edge: it's all raw material for drama, and drama sells. But sane people don't look to the White House for their entertainment; and the markets and international actors don't want the President of the United States to be unpredictable (let alone unstable).

Every so often you'll still see Trump say something like, "The media needs me; you'd be so bored without me." I think promising a return to boredom would be a great slogan for whichever Democrat emerges in 2020.

For me, the bigger question is why does the left want him and the economy to lose? Is it just because he is an asshole? Don’t you realize when the market sucks, we all suffer?

No. We cannot believe that so many dipshits still think 45 can do no wrong as their retirement is going to shit.

The market dislikes uncertainty. Chaos is uncertainty. Trump is the Chaos commander. Clear enough, or does anyone need a power point?

What makes you think we want the market to collapse? That’s absurd.

The closest emotion we are feeling to that is a smarmy, smug I-told-you-so-ness. Sure, it’s counterproductive and bordering on being a total asshole, and will only serve to entrench Trumpists in their Trumpism. But it feels delicious and is so very temping.

So, we don’t want him or the economy to “lose.” If we did, we would have voted for him.

As a midwestern, working-class American citizen ... I NEED 45 to succeed, the US needs every POTUS to succeed.
But other than 45 declaring he's winning, that he is wonderful and amazing - I'm not seeing it. Aside from the personal drama, I am simply not seeing a Presidential performance from this man. I am seeing a 9-5 banker that flits off to his weekend estate to play golf when I think he should be behind the Resolute Desk working the 24/7 job he campaigned for.
Don't think we expected 150 +/- golf trips - "I'm going to be working for you. I'm not going to have time to go play golf." --Donald J. Trump, August, 2016
Or 18 victory/post-inauguration rallies, 55 mid-term rallies - “I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done,” Trump told The Hill in 2015. “I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off.”
Then there is the whole "Governing via Twitter" thing on an unsecure phone. The huge turnover in staff ... staff that is mostly utterly unqualified to hold the posts they are appointed to.
I didn't think the jr senator of IL was qualified or seasoned for the job of POTUS, but the reality star we have now most certainly isn't from my view.

I love how the market is getting to Trump. It was the one thing he could point to whenever he got criticism and now he aint got that and it's fucking him up.
And WTF was Mnuchin doing? Hot wife or not, he's an idiot.

I couldn't agree more. He values being entertaining more than governing and he values money more than alliances.

How any person thinks he is doing a good job is beyond belief, except maybe for a few dictators around the world.

The world would be much better off if Trump golfed every day of the year. ;)

the mkt has been weak since Oct when it became OBVIOUS Dumz would control part of Congress and fuck everything up

  • Worst December since the Great Depression.
  • Stocks on track for the first year since Obama's first year after taking over for W's Great Recession.

A year ago I was completely on board with this interpretation, and the reasoning that led from showmanship to White House drama. But I'm beginning to suspect Trump's narcissism is at the root of his showmanship, both in entertainment and in politics. Chaos is said to be a marker for narcissistic personality disorder.

Most economists are saying we aren't gonna have a recession yet so no worries. I'm not an economist so I gotta go with what they say.
Most average joe portfolios will be fine cuz they're diversified and long term. Win some, lost some, come out around even until things start going up again. It's retirement shit so unless all the Dow companies suddenly dissolve then I'm confident investments will be ok in the end.
Still funny to watch Trump squirm tho. Good times.

Funny mostly because it was his up market but the Fed’s down market. And he’s way too dumb to understand that even though the market and the economy have a relationship, they are separate and distinct entities.

Why has Rory stopped commenting on the stock market?

You would think somebody was such a deep and abiding interest in the stock market would be interested in the largest stock market rally in history wouldn't you?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/us-stocks-volatile-as-markets-try-to-recover-from-christmas-eve-freefall/2018/12/26/29f8905e-0928-11e9-85b6-41c0fe0c5b8f_story.html?utm_term=.6749c7d5d851&wpisrc=al_news__alert-economy--alert-national&wpmk=1

What about our resident expert on the Dow, Adre?

Surely he wants to offer some sort of insight as to what this largest stock market rally in history means about the influence Donald Trump has on stock markets? He seemed to have an opinion about these sort of things yesterday. . .

Will Rory continue to only bump this thread during downturns for the next 6 years?

Yeah, the Dow hasn't been at this level for a whole four days!

the mkt is a forward looking animal

that is why it started tanking in June 2008 when it became obvious NIGGER would win

that is why it started tanking in OCt 2018 when it was obvious DUMZ would win

Rory managed to find time to stop by since to spew vitriol in some of his other threads but he seems to be running from his own thread here. Why is that? Doesn't he have any interest in the stock market anymore?

It went up nearly 5% today so if it retrenches a half a percent tomorrow expect him to come back and crow about it.

His selective interest is about as bad as Frodo's is in weather.

I will take this...I posted a link in the other market thread that compares how the DOW has performed under each president. It seems to have killed that thread. Donald is still way behind every president except for GB 1. Facts don't lie.

Wanna play? Enlighten us? What does the drop in oil over the last month indicate about the strength of the global business markets? The US is now the number 1 producer of crude oil in the World. Amazing, given the reasons for this was implemented by the Obama Administration. How does this influence the DOW?

Don't fret! Q-#### says a ton of dumb shit and there's still almost an entire week left in 2018!

I would hope so. There shouldn't have been any room left in the market after eight years of recovery. Except there was because it was the worst recovery on record ever. And that's after putting 80 billion dollars a phony money every month for years into the stock market to prop up a failing Administration.

That was in this thread and it obviously didn't kill it.
