Go get reflexology. :) Sometimes they offer it with massages but reflexology is amazing.

I have had that done before and loved it, but Grand Rapids had a lot of things! Great mid-sized city, if anyone is interested in West Michigan lol

Mmmm! I just had my monthly massage and my therapist and I decided my next one would be half scalp massage and half reflexology. I can't wait!
 
I need to start asking for hugs from people I don't think will mind hugging me.

I have a high touch need and it makes a noticeable difference when I get even a little bit of physical affection from someone I like.
 
First of all, sorry about all the emojii in the title, it's kind of annoying, isn't it? I guess i was having an emoji kind of day.

Next, how is everyone getting through the holidays? What are your coping skills? Have you discovered anything new that helps you get shit done?

Like LOADS of others, this is a rough time of year for me. My goals are pretty simple: avoid friction with relatives, get the kids a few gifts, make some good memories for them, and survive until they all go back to school. Simple, but not necessarily easy. Self care and coping skills are especially important right now!

I've lately taken to tuning out and listening to music on my earbuds whenever i can get away with it. At the grocery store, on the bus, when my kids are playing video games, or any time i'm feeling raw and ragged and need to insulate and regain my equilibrium. It doesn't solve anything, but it helps me survive.

Long hot baths are good, too. When i reach saturation point and the only thought left in my head is I AM SO FUCKING DONE WITH THIS DAY, i tell the kids I'm having a bath and please don't bother me unless there's blood or broken bones. Then it's more music, body lotion after (pretty much the only touching i get), and going to bed in my own room.

It's truly a luxury, having my own room in a house this small, with so many people. Sometimes i feel guilty, or wonder if i should change the sleeping arrangements. But no one is complaining, and it helps me keep my sanity, so there's that.

Back to self care and coping skills. What are yours? How well do they work? Have you recently learned any new approaches?
 
Deep breathing

Deep breathing helps, as does exercise.
Go to bed tired and sleep well
Wonderful for the mindset

First I wanted to post here to say thank you for helping me with my post and the link..

Next, for coping with the holidays...This year I've had a lot happen, so just getting over the things that have been going on in my life will be a feat of its own. We have not had time to even put up our decorations, or think about Christmas....slowly its coming together though.

So for me, this year it will be about gratitude, reaching out to family members near and far..most of them are far though. I sometimes feel sad when I can't have all of my family around, but like I said, I am grateful for the ones that are right here with me.

Sometimes i have to force myself to be grateful, UGH. It is easy to focus on the lack and dismiss the abundance.

I dunno what the hell i was doing with the title of this thing, i guess i was in an emoji mood. :rolleyes:

I'm feeling at loose ends lately, too much responsibility and not enough... what? Connection, i guess. I'm really struggling with how to get that. My current circumstances are sucking the life out of me, but without a network of supportive relationships, i can't seem to keep up with the demands on my energy.

What the heck? How have i lived here for 3 1/2 years and not made any close-ish friends? Am i missing something obvious?
