Praying for 30 years, GOD ALWAYS ANSWERS!

On IQ tests, people who believe in god score an average of 20 points less than those who who don't.

How do you reconcile that with the fact that people that don't believe in God don't believe IQ tests have any utility?

quite
except how can that be so when mankind as a whole goes through endless pain and suffering on a daily basis? i accept everyone has their own ways of exploring/discovering/accepting the spiritual side of life - and i don't have bones with others choosing to accept religious practices to do that so long as they don't impose on others detrimentally, but please, please don't tell me that all the pain endured by children, men and women, isn't felt by them because of jesus' crucifixion. perhaps we are supposed to believe it means at the point of death, when we're supposed to move on through purgatory up to 'heaven' or go visit warmer climes, but i cannot turn a pious cheek when it comes to this stuff. there's way too much hypocrisy in any religious set-up i've ever met, but coming from a roman catholic background i had a damned good grounding in seeing it firsthand.

No butters, I would never say that pain and suffering isn't felt by people because of the crucifixion. I was molested in my youth. That pain is real. I was really pissed at God. In digging deeper, I truly believe that the evil was not from God. The evil was a choice that one person made. Sometimes evil choices by people affect those who are innocent. So why doesn't God do something? I think he does: https://youtu.be/b_RjndG0IX8

I am not Catholic so I am not that familiar with moving through purgetory. I agree with you that people shouldn't detrimentally impose their beliefs on others. It is probably why I stay on Lit. The wide variety of people. The wide variety of beliefs. I am just open about sharing what I believe. So interesting to hear what people think.

I live my faith by caring about pain and suffering. Probably why I became a nurse. To help.

okay, it's not a personal thing, tryharder, you know i enjoy your postings. i would be interested (truly, not sarcastically) interested in how you'd interpret the god gave us his only son to die for our sins so we may be saved concept you spoke of. theology is a fascinating topic, but one i approach from a non-believer's pov. do i think humans are the pinnacle of all things? absolutely not. i don't know anything beyond my own limits as they stand, but look forward to discovering more about the great cosmos and all its mysteries as they are discovered.

re your clip: i suppose if one accepts the concept of a deity, the christian 'god' in this instance, it's easy to attribute good things as signs of his work, and, vice-versa, bad stuff as evil working through humans. personally, i find it perfectly easy to believe those good acts and bad acts are purely down to the human condition; as humans, we are capable of the most wonderful and most horrific acts imaginable. just as so many 'evil' people/acts were once deemed the work of satan, we know understand so much more about the mental states of illness that are often behind them. goodness IS a part of most people, and most have the ability to perform some terrible acts given the right set of circumstances.

I was so glad to see you posting. You don't come on as much as when I first was on here. I hope all is well in your world. I still check in to see what is going on but stick to a few threads. I sure miss the laughter. There were some posters that had the greatest come backs, it would make my sides hurt from laughing. Now it is usually just angry people about politics and religion.:(

I was always curious about the spiritual side of people. It is interesting, some people I have talked to say that they feed their spirituality through nature, or their family. I always felt there was a higher power. I just wasn't sure I liked it. LOL.

Coincidently, my parents were Catholics when they were living. I guess that is where my curiosity about Jesus started. I had to find out for myself. I really liked the teachings of Jesus. I guess I think of him like a mentor. I do believe he was a human at a time in history. I think, most the time, when I talk to people they get that, but just don't believe he is a deity. I should have said on the cross God felt my pain. It is hard to put into words. When I let go and thought about it I just felt understood. I worship in a Protestant church now because I feel it is right for me. I can worship anywhere though.

I really like what you said : I don't know anything beyond my own limits as they stand, but look forward to discovering more about the great cosmos and all its mysteries as they are discovered. I think that is right on. I want to see it all play out. I just added Jesus in the mix to contemplate.

Well I actually took vacation to get my house back in shape. Yes, it was that bad. Better go do it!!!!:rose:

How did I make people THIS stupid?

May be time for a do-over.

Fire? Flood? Or famine? Decisions, decisions. Which do I choose?

Ahem...

God said that he would never again destroy the world with water.

So...
