Nonconsent/SciFi Woman with magic collared and enslaved

Does anyone remember this story? I read it awhile ago but didn't finish it, so maybe the writer didn't finish it either. It starts out with a war in a different world. The invaders take priestesses as slaves and collar them. These priestesses are able to connect with magic from the earth. Being collared allows their new owners to use that magic as a weapon. One woman escapes into the woods, she has this magic but never became a priestess and is untrained. She hides in the trees, lives on bark and stains her skin and hair to hide. Eventually she is caught and enslaved. She sets about changing the heart and mind of her new owner, and that is where I stopped reading. Help?
