Hi people of Lit

I’m looking for some advice from someone who is or has been in an unhappy relationship. Appreciate it’s not a very happy topic but I’d love to know:
• were you unhappy or your partner?
• how did you talk to your partner?
• what happened?

Thanks for any help!

Tom

wouldn't it make more sense, Tom, to consult a professional with your questions?

just asking, and making a suggestion.

Sort of a professional

Hi Tom,

I was unhappy in a twenty year married relationship. I didn't start out unhappy. I'd say I had ten really good years, five that were ok and five where I was really unhappy and a mess. For the second half of my marriage I knew something was off or wrong. I could feel it and I couldn't identify what it was. The last five I really knew I was off and it was then and only then that I start to look at my life in it's entirety including my marriage.

I took a good hard look at me first, with help(therapy, counseling and training..which is why I say sort of professional) and then tried to see if my partner was able to change at all towards the new me that was emerging. She was not and I am now happily divorced for many years. It was a rough divorce and difficult and I don't regret doing what I did for an instant. I was and still am worth the effort that it took. My life, my being is so much better for it.

Regards,
Will
