What is POP and IMAP?
In other words, both are email protocols. ... Examples of such applications are Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, GNUMail, or (Mac) Mail. The original protocol is POP. It was created in 1984 as a means to download emails from a remote server. IMAP was designed in 1986 to allow remote access to emails stored on a remote server.

I can't imagine any layperson (except maybe a foreign national phishing) calling an email address a POP ID (Post Office Protocol).

That's as ridiculous as,

I've heard of a pop up ID project. It's a project for transgender to seek legal advice for changing their name and gender on legal documents.
