I have been reading and watching the "beautiful" people,

Former Trade Representatives and "negotiators" are all saying the same thing

The "media" all parrot the same thing

What Trump is DOING is BAD, we should negotiate!!!!!!!!!

What they also say is

Yes, China does put in constraints vs the US in selling stuff there, Yes, China is stealing intelectual property, yes, they have been doing that for a long long while, yes, we have been negotiating for 2 decades!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what they really mean to say is WE (US) are being taken advantage of, and we should just do NOTHING but do what HASNT worked in the past!

Why?

Cause doing the same shit keeps them employed and is TDS as its most absurd

So Trump just says.....The shit hasnt worked for 2 decades, I will BLOW it up and have the Chinese come begging to us!

THEY WILL......CHINA NEEDS THE US MORE THEN WE NEED THEM

So when you hear the negative comments of what Trumo is doing, remember, they really mean

LETS CONTINUE TO DO SHIT THAT HASNT WORKED FOR 2 DECADES CAUSE WE NEED THE WORK!

So I googled the topic and here's what I understood:

re 1:
Trump's trade war is not just about China's intellectual property theft and so on.
It's also about China's threat as a rising economic superpower.

Previous Washington policies were of engagement-containment, and Clinton took the engagement approach.
However, Trump instituted a paradigm shift towards hedging. Hence acts like the trade war but also theTaiwan Travel Act and passage of warships through the Taiwan Strait.

Like you said.

re 2:
Besides other measures, China is also trying to cut its dependence on the US dollar through it's gold reserves (China being "one of the top gold holders").
It's alliance with Russia in this regard carries the risk of dethroning US's global economic dominance.

So I guess the main debate is whether, given this global context, Trump's changed strategy will cut the "China economic threat", or will lead to disaster.

But the whole latest hoo ha regarding Trump-PutinGate made me curious:
What was the economic rationale behind Trump's/Republicans' desire to establish ties with Russia?
Given the China-Russia economic alliance.

The left believes China is owed 600 billion a year in our intellectual property and technology because it was all gained by the exploitation of others across the world. They believe our founding was illegitimate and morally reprehensible, so all we have should be doled out to the rest of the world, and the evil white man who's toxic masculinity committed all of these heinous assaults should be ground into dust.:D;)

Given the China-Russia economic alliance.

We will win the trade war with China. They need us more than we need them. Their economy depends on us.

To disrupt the that alliance and draw Russia into a sphere of western influence and relations.

1. For the moment yes, you are right.

But I also read that China is working towards a future in which it will surpass the US currency (gold, yuen, the Belt). And that more and more countries are gearing towards seeing China as the new alternative option.
See Iran. Trump's sanctions and retraction from the nuclear deal being prompted by Iran's attempt to give up US currency for yuen.

*or something like that, economics aren't my thing.*

2. I thought that too.
My understanding of it all being that the "ties with Russia" attempt was a legitimate and good idea on the part of the Republican party.
And that the Trump-PutinGate controversy is a separate issue: it's about whether Trump tried to use this for his private interests too.

Michael Pillsbury, the Director of the Center on Chinese Strategy, Hudson Institute has a new book out titled: The Hundred-Year Marathon
CHINA’S SECRET STRATEGY TO REPLACE AMERICA AS THE GLOBAL SUPERPOWER.

In it he describes how we got to where we are now with China and what we can do about it now and in the future.

Gordon G. Chang has written extensively on China and his book, The Coming Collapse of China is an eye opener to the fragile underpinnings of the Chinese economy and it's eventual doom.
