What are you listening to ?

I'm on a kick of listening to the bootleg original version os Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine. I like it a lot more than the released version. It was produced by Jon Brion, and that guy's my hero.

My local PBS re-aired their version of Cilla Black.

She was hijacked, (AFAICS) and transformed.

Although, her version of the "Alfie" song was genius.

They accomplished a fine example of emotional engineering, with that film, thanks to her.

That's what Elle King sings-

(very well)

Thanks, Stephen Colbert!

Oh, you feel it creep, creeping at the tempo
Don't you need it pump, pumping 'til it crumble
Trouble, trouble's what you need (what you need)
That's what you get in getting me (what you need)

From the bottom of your soul

Shame, shame, shame, shame
Mama doesn't know, ooh
Every night you go to
Shame, shame, shame, shame
Devil woman wants to roll, ooh
I can make you shake
Rattle your bones

I'm a fire, just to spark under your halo
Rolling thunder, I'm high up, ain't got no shame, no
Trouble; hey, what you calling me? (calling me)
Uh, come get some of what you need (what you need)

From the bottom of your soul

Shame, shame, shame, shame

with all due respect to cillia black, her most moving song, to remind her of her liverpool roots -

In your Liverpool slums,
You look in the dustbin for something to eat,
You find a dead rat and you think it's a treat,
In your Liverpool slums
In your Liverpool slums,
You shit on the carpet, you piss in the bath,
You finger your grandma, and think its a laugh,
In your Liverpool slums.
In your Liverpool slums,
You speak in an accent exceedingly rare,
You wear a pink tracksuit and have curly hair,
In your Liverpool slums.
In your Liverpool slums,
Your mum's on the game and your dad's in the nick,
You can't get a job 'cos you're too fucking thick,
In your Liverpool slums.
In your Liverpool slums,
You used to sing "Munich" but not anymore,
Since ninety-six scousers lay dead on the floor,
In your Liverpool slums

did i already post this? eh, fuck it.

summerdays

i can't help it. i love her voice. it's simple, but so damned pleasing.

I tried to remember what the soundtrack of what the Russia horror film,"Nightwatch" (2004) was like.

In my search for the answer, I happened upon a sad story.

6/16/2015

Russian singer and actress Zhanna Friske has died after a battle with brain cancer. (She was 40.)

Friske (also known by her birth name Jeanna Friske) was a member of the Russian girl-group Blestyashchie from the late '90s, before departing in 2003 to pursue acting and her solo music career. Her film credits include notable roles in Timur Bekmambetov’s horror films Night Watch and Day Watch and she released a string of singles and a self-titled album, which dropped in 2005.

The entertainer had announced he was suffering with late stage brain cancer in January 2014 and it had been reported she was planning to establish a fund to help support those afflicted with cancer. It’s understood she declined to undergo chemotherapy due to the threat the procedure posed to her unborn child; she gave birth to a boy in April of that year.
