I don't mind people protesting but I think in the case of the NFL it did become more of a look at me thing rather than people caring. The people that honestly did care looked into helping outside of the games. For me when the flag comes out I am paying respect to those who have fought, died, bled and given all for this country and I feel that deserves to be respected.

This was not motivated by someone seeking a minute of fame, And, actually, this non-violent protest has been generating buzz for a couple years now. That is what effective protest does. These protesters are not doing this for attention, and will likely suffer some financial hits.

Threats of violence like you just made are a typical response when the status quo is upset by an effective non-violent protest. The fact that you take the protest as being unpatriotic is tied to your narrow interpretation of the purpose of the protest and your narrow definition of patriotism.

In trying to make the nation a "more perfect Union" by calling attention to lingering inequalities in the justice system, these protesters are looking a lot more patriotic to me than a president who sought help from the Russians during an election so he could ascend to power. This is the same president who is preaching to the protesters about a ritualistic definition of patriotism.
