Ex-Clinton aide: 84 percent of Americans support turning undocumented immigrants over to authorities

Prominent Democratic pollster Mark Penn said on Thursday that a vast majority of Americans don’t really support so-called sanctuary cities that shield immigrants in the country illegally from deportation.

Penn, who served as chief strategist for Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, revealed that 84 percent of Americans favor turning undocumented immigrants over to federal agents.

“I asked them, ‘Do you think notifying ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] would in fact increase crime because it would inhibit people from reporting crimes or does it decrease crimes because it takes criminals off the street,’ and they overwhelming said ‘decrease,’ ” Penn told Hill.TV's “Rising.”

Penn said the response was strikingly “out of sync” with what the public might think about sanctuary cities. The broad term refers to cities that don’t fully cooperate with federal authorities when it comes to turning over people in the country illegally to immigration enforcement.

“When someone’s arrested, they expect someone will notify federal immigration authorities just as they would expect someone who violates state tax law will find out that they notified the IRS,” the pollster said.

Hardly surprising news, eh? About six months ago some reputable pollster revealed that about 70 percent of Californians were against sanctuary cities.

Great issue for Democrats to hang their hat on for the midterms, though.

It’s an old poll that was shredded when it came out well over a year ago.

Uhm.....not a good issue for Dems to hang their hat on. The Clinton administration invoked immigration bans 2nd only to Obama.

Every now and then a member of the RW frat boy racist high school dropout crew brings up some obscure poll to soothe their fragile male egos into believing that most AMERICANS think they same way that their narrow-minded asses do. But like their Fuhrer, repeating a lie often leads to belief for the feeble-minded. They are learning very well!

Mike Penn is shady by the way.

So let's dissect this:

Penn, who served as chief strategist for Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, revealed that 84 percent of Americans favor turning undocumented immigrants over to federal agents.

Ok, then this:

“I asked them, ‘Do you think notifying ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] would in fact increase crime because it would inhibit people from reporting crimes or does it decrease crimes because it takes criminals off the street,’ and they overwhelming said ‘decrease,’ ” Penn told Hill.TV's “Rising.”

Question is misleading, drawing people to think that the said undocumented immigrant is a criminal who has committed a crime, and most people think violent crime, when you say the word 'crime', thus wigging out. So from this answer we can deduce that 84 percent of Americans favor deportation?

TRASH POLL

Here is a story from a Haitian man who has lived in this nation for a long time.

He is a hard working dad who has been here since he was little kid and does not speak the language of his country. I highly doubt this man is who those pollsters have in mind.

Unlike the selfish and shallow right wing frat boy crew, I would think MOST Americans have some iota of human empathy.

"Reginald Castel was deported last Tuesday. The United States government flew him to Haiti in shackles, leaving him on an island he had not seen since he was 8 years old. He does not speak the language of his native country. When the plane landed, he knew no one there.

Castel, 44, went to Gates-Chili High School, sold cars for Vision Hyundai and lived with his family on Bay Street. His sole memory of Haiti was of the house with a metal roof where he lived as a boy. He was in despair as he flew to the island, handcuffed with 12 other Haitians and 49 men from the Dominican Republic.

“I was scared to death,” he said. “I am on the plane just praying to God.”

Perhaps you can cite a reputable poll that finds Americans have overwhelming support for sanctuary cities and illegal immigrants.
I'll wait.

The problem is what do local police do with someone who they have no authority based on local law to continue to detain a person, but they are undocumented.

It’s surprising that Republicans are suddenly Federalist with this specific issue.

TRASH POLL

You couldn't dissect a bullfrog with a bayonet. The Chief Strategist for the Clinton Campaign asked a question and 84% of those questioned answered in the negative. Being a teachable moment for an idealistic Democrat, Penn was surprised...like Hillary was surprised...like you were surprised at her stunning defeat. No doubt she spent a lot of time projecting mythologies such as alien rights and sanctuary cities on a disbelieving and unappreciative public.

Based off his poll from 2/17

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...y-statistic-do-80-percent-americans-oppose-s/

In this case, respondents were asked about "crimes." To many, that could bring to mind "violent crimes," especially when paired with the term "arrest."

But the experts we spoke to said the jurisdictions described as sanctuary cities don’t simply let murderers, rapists, armed robbers and other people they arrest for violent crimes go free. Not only would federal immigration officials be notified, but the violent crimes they were charged with would be prosecuted.

The poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University and released on Feb. 23, asked, "Thinking about people who have immigrated to the U.S. illegally, who do you think should be deported: Should no illegal immigrants be deported, only illegal immigrants that have committed serious crimes, only illegal immigrants that have committed any crime, or should all illegal immigrants be deported?"

The results: Only 3 percent said no illegal immigrants should be deported, and 19 percent said all illegal immigrants should be deported. But 53 percent of respondents said deportations should only be done for "serious crimes," compared to 22 percent for "any crime."

That’s not just a plurality -- it’s a majority. And that tells a different story than the Internet headlines.

Yes, he conducted the poll. Yes, everyone is calling his polling utter crap.

http://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...ricans-overwhelmingly-oppose-sanctuary-cities

A survey from Harvard-Harris Poll provided exclusively to The Hill found that 80 percent of voters say local authorities should have to comply with the law by reporting to federal agents the illegal immigrants they come into contact with.

As it stands, hundreds of cities across the nation - many with Democratic mayors or city councils - are refusing to do so.

"While there is broad support for comprehensive immigration reform, there is overwhelming opposition to sanctuary cities," said Harvard-Harris co-director Mark Penn.

It's old to the alt left who discard whatever they deem in opposition to their opposition, even if supports their position, yet means mud on their face becuz they aren't ahead of the game.
