How would you guys write in a medical character to a story? I'm talking someone the equivalent of an ER doctor.

I would model them on medical providers I've encountered -- too many, lately. Some surgeons wield lasers, others Dremel Moto-Tools, others wee tiny knives and spoons for scooping crap out of eyeballs. Other medics merely scan xrays and blood panels and psychiatric reports. Some surgeons work best when wired or drunk. Some docs are money-grubbers, on or off TV. What kind of doctor do you want?

To answer your question, i had the idea to do some sort of ER doctor...

That'll be a surgical intern pulling 36-hour shifts, living on stimulants and snack-machine food, but remaining calm. Then 36 hours off for sleep and tender care and more sleep. Then another 36 in the action. They can't wait to go on rotation in 10 months and 12 days. (They keep track.)

The crack ER nurses make it survivable for your doc. Head of nursing is a deity. Head of surgery is a monster but damn competent when sober. Et cetera.
