My stories tend to be in the hotwife genre (wife sees other men with husband's approval), and those I've posted here have been in that "category". The problem comes when I have to select a category. There seems to be no applicable category for this. I've used "group sex" so far, but that's really way off. A hotwife story may or may not involve group sex and those that do are probably a small minority of the "group sex" category. Both of the 2 I've posted here actually did have some group sex, but the next may not. So I can't really blame someone for calling my character a "wimp" -- he's obviously not into this genre and was expecting something different. Am I the only one frustrated with the limited list of categories? I do use "hotwife" as a tag.

The nominally correct category for this sort of story is Loving Wives, but if you publish it there you'll get lots of trolls attacking your story as "cuck shit" and voting it down. My recommendation is to find an alternative category to publish it, such as group sex, fetish, exhibitionism, interracial, etc., whatever might apply.

Or just post it in LW anyway. There it will find both the right and the wrong audience. Sure, downvoting and abusive comments will occur, but the story will get a lot of attention.

If the woman is white and the man is black, you will be flamed even worse in IR than you would be in LW. Any other combination wouldn't be too bad. If the wife is taking on two men at once, or there is another woman involved in addition to the man, then group sex. If anal is involved, it could go in that category.

Authors don't actually choose the category anyhow, but we do make suggestions which are usually accepted.

I'm intrigued by this Loving Wives category. What is the essence of this category? Are the folks who would object to a hotwife story actually looking for submissive wives? I happen to like best those wives who love and are committed to their husbands, while at the same time are strong and independent.

The LW is psychotic and that's just the reality here. Post there if you want many views and can stand much criticism.

Make the hotwife non-white and post her multi-ethnic adventures in IR. Make her a gangbanger and post in Group. Make her a demon-fucker and post in EH. If she only cheats anally, there you have it. If she only cheats with women and hubby watches, that may fly in Lesbian. Give her a weird fetish and there you are. Or make her an elf who cheats with orcs and unicorns -- go SF&F.

And there are always tentacles.

Loving Wives has no essence; that's its problem. It's a grab bag of subcategories whose readers are hostile to the other subcategories. Most LW stories are about wives who have sex outside marriage, but not all of them are about that. Some readers (the "silent majority" I think) love to read stories about wives who have sex outside marriage; others can tolerate those stories only when the wife is punished.

LW's a blast. You can just see their heads explode.

IMO, the heart of the category right now is what I'd describe as "Anti-/deconstructed/subverted Romance". They're stories that have a lot in common with the Romance category, except there's no guaranteed happy ending and a lot of the stories are overly focused on what happens after the unhappy ending.

What was probably intended as the heart of the category is basically Erotic Couplings where at least one participant is married to someone else.

Which, when you get right down to it, is a pretty lousy way to categorize things. Most of these kind of stories would do better in more specific categories, and that's what I'd recommend, e.g.:
  • Wife-swapping/sharing stories fit into Group Sex
  • Wife-watching stories fit into Exhibitionism/Voyeurism (or, plausibly, Group Sex, since you have 3+ people being sexually gratified, even if only two are touching)
  • Wives dominating a submissive husband fit into BDSM
  • White wives getting off on taking a black lover fit into Interracial
  • Husbands getting off on the emotional pain/humiliation of their wife having sex with someone else fit into BDSM
  • Husbands getting off on a specific aspect of the experience (e.g., rhapsodizing on how huge the guy's cock is in comparison to theirs) fit into Fetish
  • In fact, a lot of the Erotic Couplings-style stories that end up in LW, where it's not just sex, but rather some particular kink (taking away someone's spouse, humiliating them, the spouse not knowing about the affair, the spouse getting sloppy seconds) that's supposed to make it hot, would fit into Fetish.
Unless you're a masochist, in which case you can post the story in LW, and then post about your experience in BDSM, but that might be a bit too meta.
