'We're taking women and children first:' Efforts underway to evacuate remote communities threatened by wildfire

A spokesperson for 1 Canadian Air Division said a Chinook helicopter (pictured in supplied photo above) has been called in to help with the evacuation. The helicopter seats 30 people and is transporting evacuees to Red Lake, Ont. From there, residents are being flown into Winnipeg on a Hercules aircraft.

Little Grand Rapids band councillor Clinton Keeper said rescue crews are making progress.

“They’re (the Chinook) supposed to do three extractions,” said Keeper, adding once in Winnipeg, evacuees are being directed to a local hotel. “Right now we’re just telling people to check in. They’ve been through a lot all night.”

LOL I don't mind women being doctors, cops, soldiers, or firefighters. Or anything else they want to be. In fact that's part of why I hate Republicans - they want to deny women equal opportunities.

Also why I despise whiners who get mad about women as heroines - the manbabies who hated the old Elektra movie, all the way up to the idiots whining about women in Star Wars and Mad Max today. Like me they have always been mad about male disposability. Unlike me they get mad because men are treated like meat shields but then get offended at women being heroines. You either want men to stop being disposable meat shields or you want women to not be action heroines - you cannot have it both ways.

I want feminists to try being the meat shield that they expect men to be. But that's not ever going to happen.

Feminists want rights for women but expecting responsibility and accountability from women is seen by them as misogyny. That's why they oppose any narrative about women as perpetrators of crime.

Then again men's rights activists don't help their own cause when they cry about women action heroes and then vote Republican right on the very eve of Democrats wiping out anti-male sexism in the Selective Service system.

They're trying to get everyone out. Some men declined to leave, in order to try to help put out the fire. Of course children go first. Who would argue that? And many little ones need their mums. EVERYONE, from private float planes to the military is helping. I don't think you understand how remote those communities are. Most are only reachable by plane. I admire the men staying to help with the fire. I pray that everyone gets out alive. How can you turn such a tragedy into a flaming thread? (Sarcastic pun intended.)

I am responding to the quote I included, which was along the lines of Conservatives being accused of wanting women to be "barefoot and pregnant." Most people, including Conservatives, want people to have any job they are capable of handling.

The most recent medical or surgical procedure I have had was an internist, who is also a woman, performing an endoscopy. The same internist has performed this procedure several times and has also done colonoscopies to watch for the recurrence of colon cancer. Almost twenty years ago, I had a bowel resection, performed also by a woman. The only complaint I might have about either of these doctors is that neither has big tits.
