Real conservatism is simply LETS DO WHAT WORKS.

Real liberalism is simply LETS DO DOMETHING DIFFERENT.

All else is simply YOU STFU!

So you have no idea what liberalism or conservatism are.

Shocking...

Your post is a pile of ignorant shit.
Pretty much yeah.

It's an extremely unlearned way of defining liberalism and conservatism. You've actually defined a 'progressive' as a 'liberal'. You also haven't even defined whether you're talking about political/economic or social conservatism/liberalism.

I doubt you even know how to quantify whether or not any given policy is liberal or conservative, or belongs to another ideology and how they differ.
I suggest you start reading about the French revolution and work your way to the modern day dominant political systems from there.

And just flat out wrong....as you pointed out he's conflating progressivism with liberalism.

And conservatism is closer but off base as well.

If you really wanted to sum them up into as short of single sentence as possible, imo would look a lot more like

Conservatism = Fuck new or different, my daddy and grand daddy did it this way so I'm going to keep doing it that way.

Liberalism = Do whatever you want, just don't make it other peoples problem.

While economic/social policy are different things, they are almost always linked to one another.....economic exchanges are social exchanges.

Selling romaine lettuce with E-coli. Whoops!

Selling defective cars that whoops kill people

"As long as you don't make it other people's problems" = one reason we need checks on "freedom" and regulation by the gubmint

So this thread is just to argue over labels? Seriously?

Then again what else is a discussion forum on the internet for?

Yeah I was about to say. Economic liberalism and social authoritarianism tend to go hand-in hand, as does the inverse. In modern times neither usually goes together in the west.

Why strong economic liberalism is a bad thing:
Mexican economy car from Nissan VS American economy car from Nissian
Guess which is the Mexican one.

He just makes shit up.

I've never seen him admit there have to be limits on liberalism before though. Usually he gets triggered whenever you say the word regulation.

Not sure I'd trust BotanyBoy's definition on anything.

Liberalism is just fine with public safety regulations.

It's not fine with arbitrary economic oppression (wealth redistribution) because "it's not fair!" bullshit.

Or setting up effective monopolies/cartels over entire markets...picking winners and losers based off their skin color....you know the kinda shit you promote. :D

Yeah I was about to say. Economic liberalism and social authoritarianism tend to go hand-in hand, as does the inverse.

Economic and social authoritarianism tend to go together because it's hard to control money without controlling people.

Economic liberalism results in social liberalism...just look at the decadence and social debauchery throughout history that economic liberalism has produced. It's absolutely UNRIVALED. Can't have social liberalism without enough economic liberalism to pay for it. Otherwise you wind up eating your kids like the fuckin' Soviets and Norks.

He just makes shit up.

Like what??? Like the way you made shit up in this post ??

I've never seen him admit there have to be limits on liberalism before though.

Maybe if you quit spazzing out over trump and pulled your face and tongue out of Hillary Clinton's ass for 5 seconds you might have seen it before you illiterate sow.

But you're probably more interested in making shit up instead.

Usually he gets triggered whenever you say the word regulation.

^^ more made up shit.

2 out of 3 ain't bad. I mean #1 is your personal opinion, no matter how messed up it is. #2 is subjective to modern liberalism vs real liberalism. #3 Is DEFINATELY the opinion of the OP whenever someone disagrees w/you.

My post is correct.

Pls elaborate. It's your thread.

Your post is a pile of ignorant shit.

Interesting how the OP conveniently left out anything about Dems, Pubs, Whigs, Populists, Constitutionalists, and others I cannot recall at this moment.

He's not in the game yet, but at least he's made it to the bleachers.

Also, I found an original 1st issue of the Hooters magazine.

Find the happy middleground maybe?

The question is in what way?

IMO the US tries but we seem to "compromise" on everything to the point of total ineffectiveness and inefficiency...creating pointless money pits and facilitating corruption.

The Scandinavians seem to have some semblance of a functioning system, decent social services supported by a regulated but still very open markets to support them.

Others simply seem to be tired of the middle ground and going for a mostly one or the other with just enough of the opposing philosophy to keep from falling off that extreme end. Just eat the consequences and accept that nothing is perfect and you can't make everyone happy.

Oh me oh my...there is a LOT of grey middle ground.

What do you think the USA should do???

All my comments are my opinions. Your comments are your opinions.

People make simple constructs complex.
Uh, politics is literally the least simple construct in existence. The reason some people are so infatuated with politics is because politics absolutely and completely permeates literally every aspect of society whether you realize it or not. Every thought that goes through your head and your application of your actions can be traced back to a shift in the cultural politics of your ancestors or given a contemporary political slant. Everything from the rules that governed the creation of your computer to the quality of the air you breathe to why you practice the specific religion you practice (or lack thereof) has a political origin.

The reason any political ideology worth its salt is so huge and requires years of study to properly understand is because that ideology has to act as a comprehensive and internally justifiable and consistent filter through which its adherents experience the world around them. You can't reduce politics, quite literally the most complicated and enormous construct ever, down to single sentences and simultaneously care whether or not the things you believe are intellectually coherent or even useful to you in your personal life. At that point you're just having ideology spoon fed to you.
