So i was looking at the stats of my stories and wondered to myself. How exactly does the rating system work on this site? My first story has a ratings stat of 3.91/34, and my second chapter has 4.00/11. Wouldn't the first be up to '4.00' with 34 rather than the second which only has 11? I'm confused, heh heh.

You first story received an average of 3.91 stars from 34 voters. The second received an average of 4.00 stars from 11 voters.

My first story has a current rating of 4.18. Started at 4.67 after 10 votes and has steadily gone down. 🤔 C’est la vie. 🙄. Where do I look for the number of people who have voted please?

Thank you and also RubenR for your help. One of those things that’s easy when you know how.

I’ve had 6.1k views which I never expected in just 3 days. It’s also received 83 votes which I regard as good but unfortunately only a rating of 4.19 which is disappointing particularly with it being at 4.67 after the first 10+ votes. But on the good side it’s been favourited by 11 people all of whom are now following me so that gives me confidence in moving forward and hopefully next time getting another 83 votes but with a 4.5+ rating. I would have liked to receive more comments but perhaps that will happen next time.

That score may very well rise over time. It's pretty much a given that at least one or two jackasses are going to ding your score with malicious low votes early on. Eventually, a sweep will run, remove those votes, and your score will jump.

Also, once it's off the first page, the people most likely to find it are people who have read and enjoyed newly posted stories by you. If they liked the new one, there's a good chance they'll enjoy the older one, resulting in new 5s.

Work on one vote per 100 views, one comment per thousand (depends on category, some are pickier than others. As you know ;) ) - unless your writing is very good or very bad. If you're on the bell curve, the numbers tell the story; if you're going off the curve (good or bad), it's the comments that let you know.

You’ve just shot up in my estimation. 👍. A sense of humour is essential in real life. Particularly very often when sex is concerned. 🤓

You talkin' to me, punk? Yep, you have to base an opinion on more than one post:

a) I'm an opinionated asshole with lots of them (that could have been written more concisely),
b) I'm too lazy to lily liver my language and make it all sweetness and light. Sometimes rubbish writing really is rubbish writing (including my own - you should read what my beta says, sometimes),
c) we all have good days and bad days - you got me on a bad day,
d) none of it ever really matters, but at the time it's the most important issue on the planet (first world problems, here on Lit),
e) I'm an Australian with my bullshit filter set perpetually low; there really are too many assholes on the planet to ever get upset about them (refer also point a.),
f) I'm actually okay, when you get to know me. Some people read my posts. Oggbashan honours me by actually quoting one of mine in his siggy block, and Ogg's a proper gentleman and has the hat to prove it.

That's a pretty good number of favorites for that number of views. Your vote to view ratio is fine. My guess is, as Reject Reality says, that sweeps will eliminate some negative votes. With 83 votes, it doesn't take many bad ones to do a world of hurt on your overall score. If sweeps eliminate some troll votes, then your score may go up over time. But don't get too caught up in the score. Some readers will downgrade a story not because it was badly written but because it confounded their expectations for stories in that category
