I'm trying to get into narrating audiobooks, but without experience, I can't really go for it yet!

Is there anyone on here who would like me to read their erotica aloud? I am an experienced actress, so your work would NOT be monotone. I would make it as fun and sexy as possible!

I'd very much to do this, but unfortunately all my work is written from a male perspective, though I look forward to seeing what you do with some of the others' work. I've tried turning my own work into audio, but I can't stand the sound of my speaking voice, and it costs too much to hire someone for work I'm not getting paid on.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of takers.

OK. I think I'm "empathising". You need material to hone your skills and build a portfolio with.

If you'd like, you can use one of mine.

The one I propose is "This is Dead Set Serious". It was in the April Fool's Day Contest.

I think you need humour and this one has it. If you can do humour well I think it would enhance your prospects . It is written in the Australian rural vernacular. If you can do that I think it would advantage your career as versatility is important. Can you say "g'day". Can you do the cadences? Can you do tight language? Do you have the timing? Can you vary the tone?
I think you, as an American, will find it very difficult to do well but if you can I will be very impressed.

I definitely can't do an Australian accent yet. I'm working on it, though! I watch A LOT of Cate Blanchett interviews.

Well done. It is tricky. You'd have to Americanise the language in it. I'm not good with that. Keep it slow and laconic though. I'm not sure Cate's language would be considered typical rural Australian any more.

Many authors, myself included, don't have any editors, so there's always mistakes that fall through the cracks. Since you're using this site for practice, what happens when you come across bad vocabulary or sentence structure? Would you ad-lib to make it sound good? Or read exactly as written, like you'd have to commercially?

I replied! I will definitely send the author whatever I do, and they can share it however they like, so long as they don't sell it without my permission.

And as far as editing goes, it's really up to the author. Spelling errors I will correct, but often the nature of a piece is in how formal or informal something sounds. So it depends!
