The movie came out in 1984. The Last Starfighter also came out in 1984 and had the same actress, Catherine Mary Stewart, as Night of the Comet. Both also involved arcade games, though much more so in the former than the latter.

When watching the movie, one has to remember that a) it took place around Christmas and b) it was supposed to be a horror movie. In reality, it was a fantastic comedy. The lines are classic 80s movies, as is the music. The scene where Hector returns home and is confronted by the infected kid is hilarious.

Even more interesting, they presaged the use of non-steadycam filming where the image gently bobs and weaves, as if one is standing right there.

One final note, Cisco from Star Trek: Voyager plays a major role.

They sure don't make movies like they used to.

Catherine Mary Stewart also had a key role in another movie. It was about an alien invasion being fought off by this giant dog-shaped computerized robot loaded up with lasers, phasers and nukes. The space monsters looked a lot like spiders.
Anyway, Stewart was one of the scientists. Showed a lot of cleavage and trained a cat to operate the controls of the robot, which had a tendency to overheat.
The movie was called "Cat on a Hot Tin Woof."

she was also in the apple. i fucking dare you to watch that fucker.

Both cool flicks. And I think Stewart is still actively acting.

you take that back. rocky horror is fucking great. the apple is terrible. like golan globus kind of terrible. still, it can be entertaining in it's terribleness if you're stoned/drunk enough.

I thought it took place during New Year's. :)

Nope. They make some side mentions about it being Christmas early on, particularly when Doris and the neighbor are getting it on there's mistletoe hanging from the ceiling. The radio station even announces it's only 11 days until Christmas.

When Hector leaves to see if his mother is still alive, he talks about getting a present when he comes back. Then, when he's at the house, the record player has the Feliz Navidad album playing.

When he's running from the kid, he knocks over a Christmas tree.

Finally, when he comes back for them at the radio station, he's dressed as Santa.

It takes place in LA so there's no snow to tip people off. :D

I didn't mean the entire movie. Only that particular song and dance portion.

Chakotay, not Cisco or Sisko even.

I haven't seen it since it came out but I remember liking Night of the Comet. It was just another riff on the valley girl thing but it was a clever one. Don't know as I'd go back and watch it again but never had any bad feelings towards it.

The Apple on the other hand...

Loved the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun scene. I'd love to be the only one in a shopping mall! :D

I remember those. I didn't know Cisco played in either one.

What happened to Catherine Mary Stewart?

Was "Night of the Comet" supposed to be a horror movie?
