With the new Skype rules coming down and other factors, I decided it was time for a change
So, anyone here on Discord?

Gamers, I am sure. Its how I know about it. I do chat with some folks I met here (and no, they aren't teens), but I am willing to consider other places now that Skype is done as far as I am concerned.

What is changing with skype?

Microsoft is changing the terms of services for Skype, Xbox and office:

In a March 1 release, Microsoft is warning customers using Office, Xbox, Skype, and other products that the company is prohibiting offensive language and inappropriate content starting on May 1. “Don’t publicly display or use the Services to share inappropriate content or material (involving, for example, nudity, bestiality, pornography, offensive language, graphic violence, or criminal activity),” Microsoft warns in a portion of their new codes of conduct.

Microsoft also added that the company plans on “investigating” users who are accused of violating the new policy and will block content from being sent to other people. “When investigating alleged violations of these Terms, Microsoft reserves the right to review Your Content in order to resolve the issue,” the new policy states.

The changes are supposed to take effect May 1st. Here's a link to the actual service agreement.

As I read it, stories here won't be able to written with Office as well. Time to go penguin, folks.

I had someone track me down via Skype IP resolver once. A guy here didn't believe it was possible and I was able to tell him exactly where his office was located. Skype has been dangerous forever.

Also, Discord rocks.

I guess Microsoft doesn't like people playing on Skype anymore. Skype usage might drop off dramatically. Lol

To be fair, that's not a vulnerability of Skype, in particular. IP addresses are a thing everywhere. Most folks just don't know enough about the technology they use. I know enough to know that I don't know enough.

I never try to prove out that people are intelligent as a whole. I've been proven wrong too many times.

well, I could crack a joke about how I already knew real sex was better than cammed sex...but I'll refrain.

Seriously, though. That sucks donkey balls for anyone who uses Skype for less than puritan purposes....

I don't think anybody can dispute that real sex is so much better than cammed sex but sometimes people have to make due when the real thing is not available.

I’ve been reading up on this Skype thing, and while it does sound like a stupid-ass policy, I don’t think we have that much to fear. It’s all complaint-based. So if someone reports you for harassing them or sending unsolicited dick pics or whatever, Microsoft/Skype can look at your account and (I assume) kick you off the service or something if it’s dirty. But they’re not out looking for violations.

Us folks

Use Kik,

smart phone or tablet based.

Words, voices and video.

Recommended, except when visiting your great aunt for tea.

That's the way I'm reading it, but not just stories written for here. Sounds like if you write a story using Word and publish it on a site like Smashwords, you'll be subject to the wrath of Microsoft as well...for whatever that's worth. I have a feeling this is a reactionary response to the same new law that was the death knell of CL Personals.

I've used mostly Kik for several years with the occasional Skype interaction. No more Skype for me. Along with Kik, I've now added Discord and Wickr to my list of preferred platforms. Contact me at abqcb on one of those if you want to chat.

Yup, yup. Although, I don't think you have to publish it anywhere. Microsmall will have software that detects if you type a naughty word, hateful or abusive term, on Word, and will alert them immediately before you ever post it anywhere. More than likely, it simply won't allow you to write a naughty word, in Word. Much like a game site I belong to, certain words are banned.

In part, I understand it. They want to protect witless kids who pretend they are adults in chat rooms, from even more witless adults who might not care as much with whom they are chatting.
