I need a BIG change of scenery. Any ideas/experience/friends experiences with jobs abroad, working visas, international recruiters, teaching English abroad or anything?

Skills? Writing, Management, Fitness, Martial Arts, Entrepreneurship, customer service etc.

Thanks in advance,

Sethp!

A buddy of mine got a job teaching English in Kazakhstan after his divorce. He's been there over five years now and met his new wife there. As I recall he worked through a recruiter and had to go through several months of training first. I could get the name of the recruiter if you're interested.

My grandson teaches English (2nd language) in Thailand.
He reckons it is real good.

Digital Nomad

Look up "digital nomads". That's the term most often applied to those who have found work which is independent of geographic location. You'll find a wealth of resources, stories, and cautions. Digital nomads are most often people who move to a low-cost area and make a living by providing services they can offer through their computer such as writing, editing, coding, translating, drawing, etc.

Yes please!

I spent around three years as a holiday rep. Shit money, long hours but cheap travel and long breaks.

Job doesn't really exist any more though.

Good luck sethp! I've read your stories here. I think you're very talented. Taking such a bold leap - I take my hat off to you.

Don't know exactly what you're looking for nor where, but PM me. Fair winds and following seas.

plus, there are opportunities to teach english as a second language all through SE Asia.

often you don't even need a formal qualification. TEFL courses are available online for a paper qualification. they don't really mean much but it can help to have a certificate.

be careful of visa regulations. thailand and vietnam tourist visas do not allow you to work. a lot of people flout this,of course, but it can get shitty.

In the early 1980s, I scored a job as a copywriter in New Zealand. It was a two-year contract - and I ended up staying for almost ten years. It was pressure, pressure, pressure; but I also got to go sailing most Wednesday nights and about every second weekend. Of course you do need to be able to write, and you do need to be able to sail. :)

Interesting. Being a writer who's kept most of my stuff to myself AND having spent 4+ yrs onboard some type of US ship, primarily Submarines, your post intrigues me.

You must have so much fun!
