Your weirdest source of inspiration...

Sometimes, ideas come to us randomly or spontaneously. Other times, we hear or witness something that gives us an idea we want to write.

Seeing a mother and her daughter sitting in a cafe over a small table, stroking the back of one another's hand, giggling and blushing as they quietly talked inspired me to write Sapphic Serenity, for instance.

Witnessing two incredibly shabby hobos arguing and then getting into the world's sorriest fight in a parkette inspired me to write a story about a war between the Illuminati and Goldendawn (you had to be there, trust me on this).

Watching some of the carpenters and sec dec people scurrying around and constructing our new sets inspired a parody story about ants watching TV and portraying humans as an invasive species.

Annnnnnnd, while walking to work this evening, while toddling down a bike trail I take, I saw a guy filming two naked girls squirming their boobs together and making out while trying to remain hidden from passers-by. This is now going to be a story. It also made me glad that as a writer, I get to work indoors in the studios, rather than filming porn outdoors. Those poor girls. The Nippleometers announced it was glass-cutting cold outside.

What has been your weirdest or most unexpected source of inspiration for writing a story? (erotic or otherwise). I'd have to say HoboWars was my weirdest.

You film porn indoors? That's what you do? You film porn. Indoors. What is your life?

I should have worded that better. No, I do not film porn. I'm working on a scifi show at a legit studio. I'm just saying 'There but for the grace of God...', because under other circumstances, I could have been some poor shlub stuck outdoors, freezing my nuts off for $50 to give PornHub a video clip.

It all makes sense now.

Dairy Queen has given more than a few characters. An old man on a front porch at the end of a road kicked off a novel I did for Nano. Tonight I watched a movie called, "Dirt". I'm 1400 words in on another story now. Just what I need, another plot bunny gnawing on my ankle.

But the weirdest is probably my memory and imagination. Of course I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

Electric.

Gyahhhhhhh, the Electrics dept makes me crazy. I was working on the show Killjoys about two years ago, and the damn Electrics people would make a point of giving the elevators we were using a good Dutch Oven every time they were in it. Seemed to be a cultural thing for them.

Hopefully your BB ain't one of them bastiches. Although if you're roomies, I'm sure you'd know it.

As I say, it's not for here... but fuck me. I could tell stories. They are a fucking breed.

I'm actually working out the rough draft of a story concerning my shenanigans in this industry for Lit. RL experiences are often the most fun to write. And this industry is RIFE with opportunities for said shenanigans...

My diary has been an invaluable source of inspiration for me along with song lyrics that filter into my stories.

Weirdest source(s)? Real life, without question. Far far weirder than my imagination.

I like to think my imagination can keep pace (or almost keep pace) with real life for zany. If nothing else, then take what life presents me with an make it even more crazed and warped...

come and have a beer. ;)

Dreams are always the weirdest inspiration for me, but also the most fun to try and piece together.

IRL? My buddy complained to me that his girlfriend cheated on him with... another girl. In front of him. While he was fully cognizant of the situation. It made absolutely no sense.

His justification was that it was too weird to break up, or say anything, so he called it cheating.

Dude, you worked on Killjoys!? Loved that show.

If a show was done here in Toronto in the past few years, chances are I've worked on it. Suicide Squad, Killjoys, Orphan Black, Shape Of Water, The Expanse, XXX3, etc. This is a busy town when it comes to the entertainment industry.
