Probably a silly question but...
Do bad ratings, rude comments etc bother you? Usually, constructive criticism is welcome (I know I'm far from a perfect writer) but when people send rude emails or give a 1star rating (bc I wouldn't talk to them) it's disheartening. Do y'all care about these at all or should I just submit it and forget it?

the whole rating thing is basically for suckers because of the vast number of trolls. rude comments can be easily deleted, so you should feel free to do so. submit and forget if writing makes you happy.

My third story, which I submitted over a year ago, received lots of incredibly nasty comments. Since then my skin has thickened, so, no, they don't bother me anymore.

You should try to ignore rude comments, or delete them.

It's hard to glean useful information from bad ratings alone. Sometimes good stories get bad scores because they don't meet the expectations of the readers in a particular category. Try to get whatever positive or useful you can from feedback and ignore negativity.

Trolls are a fact of life, I've found. The scores get adjusted by the mods eventually to wipe out the one-bombs and you can just delete comments from the knuckle-draggers. Have fun!

I posted a cuckold story in Loving wives. I had a reader stalk me over to a cuckold site and came back here to post that he had seen me here... I found it pretty comical that a guy who was so against cuckolding that he felt the need to insult me, then went to a cuckold site...

His comments were almost like a parody of a closeted cuckold.

Since that moment, I have had an easier time realizing that rude comments are much more about the person commenting than the person to whom they are directing comments. Obnoxious people suck. Don't let tehm in your head for a moment longer than necessary.

this is spot on! I guess, for me, it feels very vulnerable to post something and unnecessarily shitty comments make me want to hide under a blanket. I'm toughening up though!

I get hit hard by trolls regularly.

Mostly in terms of them actively trying to tank my new submission's rating, but they eventually lose interest and go off to bother someone else. Then my rating climbs up to where I generally expect it to be.

I'm lucky in terms of comments, because my cousin handles most things for me on here when I am busy- she submits my stories after they're proofed and is the bouncer for my Comments section. If she sees a comment she believes is unconstructive or useless, she terminates it with extreme prejudice. Such a good little trooper.

(And yes, you vultures, she's over 18, I'm just a lot bigger than her).

It's good to develop thicker skin, but it's YOUR story and YOUR page. Erase shitty comments if you want to. Hell, I've suggested to authors whose works I'm reading that they erase crap comments simply because I don't feel like being exposed to them.

Go nuts. Hit that Delete button. I just wish it was as easy to deal with the 1* issues.

The sweeps resolve one bombs eventually, especially during contests (even if you don't enter contests) - the sweeps go through the whole story file.

I'm lucky and so far haven't really gotten any bad ratings or horrible comments yet, okay not bad ratings in regards to what most normal people would say is bad but to me if it goes under 4.5 I consider it bad. Yes I am pretty hard on myself.

I have gotten some odd comments that I didn't understand, and got one that upset me more than made me mad. The person straight up said they only skimmed my story and then said something about it that if they had read the story the answer was right there!

But yeah you can't let it get to you, but yeah I think it bothers all of us to some point.

I try to remember that I can't please everyone all the time. Although I'll die trying!
