Donald Trump caught on tape mocking George W. Bush, calls Iraq invasion ‘single worst decision ever made’ — then praises dictatorship

President Donald Trump's announcement of plans to impose 25 percent tariffs on steel imports evoke the 2002 precedent when then-president George W. Bush attempted the same protection for domestic industry.

Like Trump, Bush announced tariffs on steel imports just over one year after taking office, on March 5, 2002. They ranged from 8 percent to 30 percent for 10 categories of imported products such as flat rolled steel, machine wire and welded pipe.

Bush was forced to backtrack less than two years later after losing the case in the WTO brought by the 15 EU countries and seven others (Japan, China, Brazil, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland).

The White House capitulated amid the threat of duties of up to $2.2 billion on US products, including fruits and vegetables, textiles, footwear and motorcycles, some products important to the regions providing key support to Bush's reelection bid.

To explain his flip-flop, Bush had expressed his "strong belief that America's consumers, the American economy is better off with a world that trades freely and a world that trades fairly."

According to some studies, the economic consequences of the dispute cost about 200,000 jobs to the US economy.

Election expert says GOP may have already lost House to Democrats: Trump coalition ‘will not turn out’

A top election analyst asserted this week that it may be too late for Republicans to retain control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Cowen & Co.’s Washington Research Group managing editor Chris Krueger told Axios’ Mike Allen that there are multitude of signs pointing to a Democratic takeover of the House.

Krueger noted that in the six previous midterm elections where the president’s job approval was under 50 percent, the president’s party lost an average of 43 seats. Democrats need to win 24 seats to win the House.

President Donald Trump’s leadership has been erratic since he entered the Oval Office, but his recent behavior has turned especially alarming. Aides speak of dysfunction and chaos at the White House. Politicians, pundits and psychiatrists have long warned that Trump might lash out in destructive ways if he comes under intense pressure and senses that his leadership is threatened. Some worry that the president might try to distract attention from his troubles by provoking an international crisis or war. Washington insiders hope that top generals close to the president, such as John Kelly, H. R. McMaster and James Mattis, can protect the nation and the world if the Chief Executive goes off the rails.

There is an eerie resemblance between the current situation in Washington and conditions late in President Richard Nixon’s Administration. When the Watergate scandal endangered Nixon, the President seemed to break down. During Nixon’s final days, officials tried to prevent him from risking war, including a nuclear attack.

There are striking differences in the political situations faced by Richard Nixon and Donald Trump. Trump has much more support from members of his party than Nixon received during the last weeks of his presidency. But if special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian intervention in the 2016 election brings charges against the president and his administration for obstruction of justice, Donald Trump might react in extreme ways.

Reagan’s budget director: Trump is the ‘biggest sucker’ for listening to steel industry ‘crybabies’ on trade

David Stockman, Ronald Reagan’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, on Thursday called Donald Trump the “biggest sucker” for listening to steel industry “crybabies” and “their tails of woe.”

Stockman was speaking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer about Trump’s decision to levy tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, a proclamation the president will reportedly sign Thursday. Stockman called the tariffs a “fig leaf for rank protectionism” that focuses on the “wrong industry” for the U.S. economy.

“I know you’ve been working on these issues for decades, what does it say that the administration has had such a rocky rollout of these tariffs?” Blitzer asked Stockman.

“It’s typical,” Stockman replied. “The steel industry are the crybabies of the beltway lobby farm. They gang tackle every new president that comes in with their tale of woe, and in this case they’ve got the biggest sucker yet.”

“This whole thing is a giant mistake,” he added.

Corey Lewandowski defies Intel Committee on conversations with Trump and Trump Tower Russia meeting

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski reportedly refused to answer lawmakers’ questions about President Donald Trump and a meeting between Russians and the Trump campaign that took place in Trump Tower.

During what was described as “tense” testimony to the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday, Lewandowski was said to have followed the pattern of other Trump campaign staff — like Hope Hicks and Steve Bannon — who have declined to answer questions about conversations with the then-candidate, even though events that occurred during the campaign are not covered by presidential executive privilege, according to reporters who spoke to lawmakers.

For his part, Lewandowski claimed that he had answered all “relevant” questions.

Schiff says Lewandowski refused to answer questions about conversations with Trump, the Trump Tower meeting and the firing of Comey, and that Dems have asked for a subpoena.

Trump lawyer Michael Cohen scores deal for tell-all book on first family, Stormy Daniels and Russia: Trump biographer

Former biographer of President Donald Trump, Michael D’Antonio, revealed on CNN Thursday during a panel discussion that attorney Michael Cohen received a deal for his proposed book about his life and experience.

Cohen reportedly gave Stormy Daniels $130,000 in alleged hush-money, but according to D’Antonio, the Trump lawyer will be receiving at least $500,000 for his book.

The Daily Beast reported in February that Cohen was shopping a book idea around that talked about the Trump family, Stormy Daniels, and Russia. The book will likely be titled Trump Revolution: From The Tower to The White House, Understanding Donald J. Trump.

“No issue was too big, too sticky or too oddball for me to tackle,” Cohen wrote in the proposal sent to publishers. “I saw it all, handled it all. And still do.”

Daniel’s attorney reveals 10 donors have offered to pay million dollar damage fines if adult star spills beans on Trump

CNN anchor and talk radio host Michael Smerconish got Stormy Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti to reveal that at least ten individuals have come forward with offers to cover any financial repercussions resulting from the former porn star telling her full story about President Donald Trump in spite of a “hush money” settlement negotiated by Trump attorney Michael Cohen.

Smerconish asked Avenatti about the “disgorgement clause in the contract.

“What this essentially says that if she violates it, she owes $1 million for every episode that she goes out and speaks in violation of the confidentiality. It occurs to me that Michael Cohen may have made a wise business decision,” Smerconish noted. “Everybody is laughing about him giving her $130,00, if it came from him, but he will get a ten-fold return on that money if in fact she speaks and violates this agreement. That is not a bad return.”

“Has anyone offered, has anyone, including Larry Flint, but I want to ask this in universal sense, has anyone offered to pony up the million dollars to protect her and say ‘here, I’m good for it, go tell your story’?” Smerconish asked.

“At least ten individuals in the last three days alone,” Avenatti replied.

“Is she contemplating taking any of those ten offers?” Smerconish followed-up.

“No,” Avenatti claimed.

WHy can't she give a blow by blow description of the affair? If she does it on pay per view, I'll bet at least 10,000,000 people would tune in, for $10 apiece.
