This thread isn't as vehement as it sounds, I just wanted to start off big...

So what category do you have absolutely no interest in publishing in or reading?

I will never do a Gay Male story. Not because I am prejudiced, but because I have no damn idea what to do. Granted, I've had endless numbers of my gay male friends coyly offer to demonstrate for me (which is where the 'Aw, Hell Naw!' kicks in). Closest I've come to writing anything like that is a scene in one of my Lesbian Incest stories where my protagonist has sex with a bi bit and pegs him.

And yes, I do write lesbian stories, which one could argue I'm even less qualified than Gay Male to write, but I've happily allowed my lesbian friends to demonstrate for me. ^^v

As for other categories I'd not be inclined to write in, probably BDSM. I have friends in the community, but it's not my idea of a good time, so me avoid it.

How about y'all? Where darest thou not to venture?

Back when the Survivor Competition was still a thing, I had fantasies of writing to all of the categories.

And pretty much figured out that even Dairy Queen soft serve ice cream doesn't come as vanilla as me.

I don't know. I mean, I don't know that there is a category I won't someday try to Puck up. But, right now, I'm a bit leery that my lack of skills would only become more apparent in some of the more fetished (and less forgiving) categories.

But I will never write gay male...not that I couldn't, but I have never experienced that event...so I won't even give it a try or read gay male.

I've only written in Gay Male and just submitted a gay fan fic in Celebrities & Fan Fiction, but I have an idea for a straight series in Sci-Fi/Fantasy that I'll eventually pursue.

The categories I'll never write in are Lesbian Sex and NonConsent/Reluctance. I have no interest in writing scissoring. And a big ol' nope to rape.

Non-Con and Mind Control.

I don't get the first and could never write it - my philosophy of life is inherently consensual and equal, especially when it comes to sexuality. Mind Control pushes close to Non-Con for the same reason, and is Rohypnol by proxy to me.

I don't understand any of the dynamics in the BDSM community, so wouldn't go there either. It might be consensual, but nothing I wrote would ring true, so I wouldn't even start.

I wouldn't write lesbian, as I tend to write bits of me into most things, so that probably wouldn't work. I'll read it though, quite happily.

I'd never write non consent (reluctance I can handle) because its disgusting pure and simple. And before people start with the 'you write incest' keep in mind the incest here is 18+ and 99% of the time consensual, its nothing like the abusive reality.

Whereas non consent is getting off on the exact crime of rape. women who fantasize as the victim are one thing, but men getting off on it are getting off as the rapist and are the lowest form of scum on this site and in real life.

Which is odd in a way. In "Dagger and Crystal", my protag has a very non-con encounter with a demon and power dynamics play a huge part in many dark elf-centric fantasy stories, which I do write.

Maybe writing it in a fantasy context gives me a certain amount of leeway in how I portray these scenarios.

But I could never write "How I visited a dominatrix and got humiliated for two hours, the novel".

Gay male wouldn't be my choice, but I wouldn't touch non-consent with a pole, simply because I feel sex should be consensual in the first place. It's probably why I can so easily wander through the I/T halls since it never goes non-con. The irony about how electricblue has something against mindcontrol is that I don't have anything against that - as long as it's not too wrong to my taste. Besides, my current story does have some mind-control, although it's mostly mindreading. Which reminds me, the one chapter that happened in I forgot to add the damn tag.
Anyway, in terms of mind-control I prefer the more lighthearted ones in that category, which make up for more or less a funny/joke story.

Gay male would be plain wrong for me too. Not that I have anything against Gay males - I have plenty of gay friends. I'm also able to see whether a man is attractive or not. Which is making my girlfriend uncomfortable if I point out a handsome, sexy guy she hadn't seen yet, and it is making my non-gay friends uncomfortable if I point out same man and forgetting in what kind of company I'm in.
But I would simply feel uncomfortable writing it and people would feel very uncomfortable reading it. As rae121452 already mentioned, it's probably a lack of gay fantasies that makes it feel so uncomfortable

Now Tex is having fun up front, whacking them with his .308 and Lovecraft is just pumping away. Voboy's finally figured out how to slap the mag in his FAL and get off a few shots. BB and Bear are blowing them in half with the 8 gauges and Barefoot girl jut got send flying by a headless chupacabra that kind of did the beachball thing without it's head .... the team has been ambushed by a swarm of chupacabra and they weren't prepared and it's chaos....

“Ka-boom.” BB’s cannon went off. “Ka-boom.” Bear had reloaded and “Ka-boom … Ka-boom” and those 8 gauge shots, they were blowing chupacabras in half except one was a headshot and fuck, no payout on that fucker coz the head was gone and that headless chupacabra hit Barefoot girl like a frigging giant spiked beach ball and sent her crashing backwards and my pink Sig-Sauer kinda flew through the air and fuck, that had to have hurt but Voboy had his FAL SLR up and he’d finally slammed a mag in and he was squeezing off shots ‘n beside me Lovecraft’s Mossberg was thundering out one shot after another and then he was reloading and Biscuitboy was finally up and that Remington we’d loaned him was adding it’s slow thunder to the cacophony of sound.

We weren’t the only ones now and more and more gunfire echoed out coz there were way more than twenty of those fucking monsters, this wasn’t a pack, it was a fucking swarm and we hadn’t been ready for them and I could hear screams from behind us and fuck knew who that was. Steve and Tex and BB had their work cut out just holding their position up at the pointy end of our short column of vehicles ‘n Lovecraft had reloaded and he was rocking again and Biscuitboy had fucked up on the reload ‘n him and some chupacabra were going at it and the chupacabra had him down on the ground and it was going for the head slam with that frigging penetrator.

I also have no interest in the incest category; however, I have been asked to read other author’s work for the category. In those instances, I can set aside my moral issues with incest and read over written material by a fellow author. Kant

I get that feeling I'm a distinct minority here

Now those are two categories I want to write more in. I was planning to try a sequel to "The Wolf with the Red Roses" as far more of a mild BDSM story and I have this idea for what's really more of a reluctance story.

Loving Wives I really enjoy, and I never thought I'd enjoy writing Incest but the two I've written I really enjoyed writing.
