White South African farmers will be removed from their land after a landslide vote in parliament.
The country's constitution is now likely to be amended to allow for the confiscation of white-owned land without compensation, following a motion brought by radical Marxist opposition leader Julius Malema.
It passed by 241 votes for to 83 against after a vote on Tuesday, and the policy was a key factor in new president Cyril Ramaphosa's platform after he took over from Jacob Zuma in February.

You know when there are Marxists leading the pack the economic good times are coming. And getting rid of the white farmers is just social justice on steroids and well overdue.

South Africa may not have the petroleum reserves that have made Venezuela a garden spot (Free Food! Free Health Care! The Lowest Rate of Obesity in South America!), but not to worry. Handing over productive farmland to political cronies has always resulted in record high yields of disappointment, followed by rancor, excuses, hunger, out of control inflation, state sanctioned torture and other random police violence.

African countries always excel once the blacks get to control their governments.

White folks own 72% of farmland and make up maybe 9% of the population. Jesus. It almost sounds like an entire system was set up to benefit a tiny minority of rich white foreigners.

But who would do such a nefarious thing? To set up such a system in a nation that only benefits a chosen few, a select strata, seeking to enable and grow them through generations of hegemonic privilege? If such a thing happened here, then...then...then...

*sputters in furious indignation, spittle flying everywhere, throws errant loosed papers and manuscripts off heirloom cherry-wood desk*

Has there ever been a time when South Africa wasn't fucked up? Doesn't seem to matter who's in charge.

this land ain't your land
this land is my land

It was. But looking backward and going into Social Justice Warrior mode now and into Marxism will not end well for a vast majority of people in South Africa today.
If you think things are bad there now ...

What do you mean by "foreigners?" Most of the land owners were born in the country, usually going back multiple generations.

As for those ownership figures, you'll probably find the same thing almost everywhere, except in places where nobody is allowed to own land. In the US, for instance, most people are not farmers and do not own farmland.

Oh it's going to go GREAT!!!

I'm just glad I can sit back and watch from afar.

Doesn't matter, it's clear proof white people are oppressing black people.

It's just what white people do, they are born oppressors and they need to be slaughtered.

Just more proof of the inherent evil of white people.

As in the other thread, the Progressive responders cannot get past the color of the skin of the ANC so they don't see that they are reds. Once they liberate the land they will parcel it out to cronies, nothing will be grown, there will be massive starvation, and guess who the Progressives are going to turn to and demand they send the Navy, food and water as well as to pay for all of it it it's going to be the rich white developed countries like the US, Europe and the remnants of the former British Empire.

And that's where we'll have to be strong and "just say no."

They'll be too high up on the Index to ignore. This is one place where the hand-wringing and alligator tears of virtue-signaling will begin to dominate the topic/board. And woe be to that poster who does not join the signaling, because the harpies and haters will focus with all the heat their rage can "fire up."

AHEM! Please refrain from lumping us mythical impossibilities in with the haters.

I mean colonization and apartheid benefited foreign-born whites and their descendants at the expense of native born blacks. South African blacks were prohibited from owning land under apartheid.

If there’s a way to talk about landownership in South Africa without acknowledging the violent history of colonization and apartheid, then I’m not aware of it, and not sure why we’d want to exclude/avoid the topic of race in this conversation.

The local black tribes had very little before "colonization." After "colonization" they enjoyed an actual economy and the ability to get an education and become something more than members of a tribal society thanks to modern farming. They, instead, have decided to devolve back into tribal societies and will suffer great population loss until they can reach that sparse number than can "live off the land."

Why do you put colonization in quotes? I’m just asking because I don’t know and I’m curious, not because I’m trying to be an asshole.

I never heard anyone say black Africans enjoyed being colonized. I don’t know. That’s news to me, and not my impression from any African person I ever talked to. Maybe I should read-up on some other perspectives.

You probably should have been following the other thread.
Civilization moves into vacuums. It brings with it so many benefits. There was land there that was ready to farm and there is no way a tribal civilization is going to undertake the Capital expenditure (which they never had) to produce surplus and make their lives better. The major injustice in this scenario is looking at it through the lens of race. You do not get the same moral outrage over the Romans imposing civilization and increased wealth over the tribes of Europe because we have forgotten how to think about culture clashes outside of the context of race. That is very sad.

Putting the word in quotes is meant minimize (and ultimately erase) the ugliness of its verity.

What colonization actually stands for, what it actually does and the legacy it leaves behind is too shitty for them to acknowledge.

It's also why "tribal" is a such a fun word for them to use when codespeaking on black (and/or indigenous) people. ;)
