I am also a male in the uk, but wouldn't say this is cold weather now, if you remember some of the media stories and photos of massive snowdrifts across the pond - we are usually the subject of ridicule from other parts of the world regarding our reaction to what is only a few degrees below freezing.
I am actually on west coast of Scotland and cannot see any snow at all, even on the hills, it's lovely clear skies and only about 8 degrees indoors, so could be worse.
I once lived in eastern Europe for a few years, and it was normal to be -15 with added wind chill to make it interesting - bearing in mind the local authorities over there increased fuel prices when colder, the locals had genuine reason to grumble, unlike here where most homes have central heating and charities help the needy in cities.

Looks a bit unpleasant in some areas but this part of Scotland has had about two little snowflakes all day...... still happy to stay nice and warm with a hot coffee and my laptop though, in case it gets worse.
