High School Shooting In Florida

1.)

#1 and #5 would have prevented the Florida shooting. He was 18 and he had an AR-15 Rifle.

#4 may have, too, since he was a dumb shit with no money and getting liability insurance would probably have been beyond his brainpower. But maybe not.

* Must be 21 to purchase/posses any kind of firearm.
* 7 day waiting period on all firearms.
* No private sales.
*Must carry liability insurance.
* Nothing beyond a handgun.
* Gun purchase limit.

2.) How does any of this erode the rights of law abiding citizens?

So the kid who shot up Sandy Hook shoulda waited until he was 21 before he murdered his mother and stole the guns? 'Cuz, not being 21 and all, he might have been breaking the law to have them gunz.

Waiting periods don't work. There have been studies done on this. There's also a case in California in the works on just this issue. The trial data was interesting in what it DIDN'T show - namely that waiting periods don't stop criminal use of firearms.

Why can't I sell my property when I want to sell it to whoever has the money to buy it?

Liability insurance doesn't stop accidents, it only compensates AFTER the damage is done.

So I have to give up my matchlocks and flintlocks? And my shotguns?

Limits? How many? One? Two? What if I'm a licensed collector? Museums? Do your limits apply to spouses together, or can they both have up to the limit at the same time in the same household?

I didn't wait until I was 18 for my right to pack heat.

Either way, neither of those rights were legally protected for either of us until we became adults.

Flat out wrong. Unless you can cite a court case that says it's ok for the government to tell a minor what they can and can't say.

Let's hear your solution so we can have a conversation.

Amend Obamacare to require universal purchase and carry of a firearm (or face an IRS penalty and fine), to protect your personal health. Welcome to the 2A militia!

I waited and you didn't deliver.

Didn't deliver what?

I told you exactly what I think a decent start to manage and curtail gun violence was.

No need to make things up when you've been directly quoted. Now you'll resort to your usual foot stomping and screaming

You never directly quoted me saying anything remotely close to that.

You wanted to ascribe that bullshit lie to me really bad more than once so far but it's just not true.

I believe the rights that are protected (not given by government) by the Bill of Rights

I do to, but the reality is the government doesn't protect rights, it's regularly doing all it can to side skirt and erode them.

Effective reality is that your rights are what the government says the are or the government will come skull fuck you.

I didn't wait until I was 18 for my right to free speech.

Uh, no you didn't. Until you reached your majority any "rights" you think you possessed were only privileges granted by your parents. Children do not have the full packet of Constitutional Rights. Which is how and why your parents could punish you, send you to your room, limit your free time and who you associated with, and so on.

I don't care what the killer thinks. I care what the gun shop owner who will face consequences for selling guns illegally thinks.

If this is really your position on laws, I'm sure you'll agree that building a wall to keep out immigrants also won't work.

Now you're just making shit up. The gun shop owner MUST release the firearm UNLESS there is a denial from the Form 4473 and/or a "hold" is placed on the sale by the BATFE. Absent that, there is no "illegal" in the sale. AFAIK, there are no claims that such happened in the Fla case.

Government tells minors to STFU on a DAILY BASIS.

You should know ....aren't you a public babysitting service employee?

Did anyone listen to Emma’s speech today?
She makes more sense than half of the posters here.

He already knows that business owners can't even refuse to make and sell a gay wedding cake without an ACLU lawsuit..

Post your solution.

I don't have one. SCOTUS has set up the perfect storm in this respect. A tension between an explicit right, the second amendment, and a derived right, as far as the mentally ill are concerned, the fifth amendment.

You, and many others, want to restrict second amendment rights via a variety of silly, non-functional, enactments. Quite frankly they have the same logic behind them as solving the drunk driving problem by taking automobiles away from sober drivers.

As an example of one of your silly proposals, the liability insurance requirement. It borders on the pre-1964 Mississippi Voters Registration tests where, if you were black, you had to write out the names of your representative and senators. The catch was you had to write it out on wax paper with a ball-point pen. If, by regulation, you can force me to buy insurance, then, by regulation, you can dictate the type of insurance, hence the cost. It's just a path to back-door confiscation of sorts. And the saddest part is the fact that it's highly discriminatory. The lower class minorities are the ones that will be left with no means to defend themselves. You really are a racist.

I saw that someone else had posted that she made bipartisan sense when tlking about the current gun climate.

WHY ARE WE LETTING THE NRA BUY POLITICIANS AND WHY ARE THE ADULTS NOT DOING MORE.

I cannot blame or argue with her.

Let's hear your solution so we can have a conversation.

I don't need to offer a solution. The choice is simple; obey the law. That means you can either accept that we have the Right to Keep and Bear arms without infringement, or try to repeal/amend the 2nd Amendment.

Remember, prohibition didn't work with alcohol. It won't work with guns either. But hey, if you're stupid enough to think it will, good luck.

On another note; I actually think those high school kids getting into the national conversation is a good thing. They might actually learn the civics they weren't taught in school. if so, they'd be smarter than most of the Lit members on this subject.

Or enforce it. All of it. If you're not in a well-regulated militia in specific situations, you don't carry firearms in public. Period. Enact severe penalties for violation. Keep all the guns you want... in private. Just like driving illegal junkers on private property, no problem. But in public, be regulated, or regret it.

Parents aren't the government.
I literally haven't made anything up.
Again, you need to present your solution so a conversation can be held.

Trying to repeal the Bill of Rights is simply the retraction of promises made by the government to the people of the United States. It doesn't 'give' anybody any rights, it simply promises not to interfere in their free exercise. The rights were never given by the government in the first place, and these rights existed in each and every individual before the country even existed. Should someone be so stupid as to try and repeal them, and the rights would still exist, it would only be different tomorrow from the standpoint that the country no longer take he moral position that it would protect them.

Solution to this is to amend Obamacare, and require everyone to buy and carry a handgun to protect their health, or face an IRS penalty. Welcome to the militia!!!

would u really want any of those dickheads to have those weapons

They have them, what I think about it is irrelevant.

Then you should have no problem citing a case. I'll keep waiting.

There has never been a need for a case.

And there is no need to cite something that happens in classrooms and schools across the country most days of the year.

If you really need a citation about the legal rights of children vs adults a simple google search will help you understand that kids along with some other special cases don't get a whole lot in the way of legal rights. The're effectively their parents/legal guardian/the states bitch.
