A North Texas teacher had died from complications from the flu.

Heather Holland, a second-grade teacher at Ikard Elementary School with the Weatherford Independent School District died over the weekend, the Weatherford Democrat reports. Holland got sick about a week ago and took medication, but delayed picking up the prescription due to the $116 copay, according to the newspaper.

By Friday night, Holland's condition worsened and she was taken to the hospital. Her husband Frank Holland told the Weatherford Democrat that she died Sunday morning.
America's capitalist health care system kills people. No one ever died because they had to pay more taxes to get free medicine to the poor. Life is more important than money. Period. Heather Holland wouldn't have died waiting for her medication in Canada.

It is unclear if either Heather or Aaron received their flu shot this season.

A $116 co-pay sounds a whole lot like Obamacare. They should be able to afford it, since they are saving $2,500 a year otherwise on their medical bills.
Meanwhile, I just read a story about a kid who died of the flu a few days after seeing his pediatrician. I suppose you would argue that if we had socialized medicine he'd still be alive in the hospital waiting room, but I'm not so sure.

I tried to find anywhere if the teacher actually got a flu shot and couldn't find it. It's almost impossible to not be able to find a place to get a free one. I would think a school system would make getting a flu shot mandatory. As the SGOTUS said...the chance of getting the flu is only reduced 33% with a flu shot, but there is zero reduction if you don't get one.

Obamacare isn't capitalism smart guy.

No one ever died because they had to pay more taxes to get free medicine to the poor.

Yep....but this is the USA and we don't like that oppressive shit.

Life is more important than money. Period.

There is overwhelming evidence all around the world to the contrary.

Heather Holland wouldn't have died waiting for her medication in Canada.

Maybe not, but she isn't Canadian so it doesn't matter.

This is unfortunate, but no system is perfect. In Canada she may have died waiting to see a doctor.

Sap just proves once more you can free the socialist from the plantation mentality, but the plantation mentality never frees itself from the socialist.

Not true. If it's life-saving care she wouldn't have to wait.

More people died every year due to lack of medical care BEFORE Obamacare came along, dumbass.

There's also overwhelming evidence around the world that murder happens. Do you say it should be legalized?

That doesn't make Obamacare capitalism high speed.....you're still wrong.

The USA's capitalist healthcare system doesn't kill anyone, because it doesn't have a capitalist HC system.

People die from all sorts of shit, lack of medical care ain't one of them.

No.

That doesn't mean people don't kill and get killed for money all day every day all around the planet. At 7 billion and growing with no end in sight human life is cheaper than ever.

Flu kills old people, young people whatever the health care system. Even if medicine and treatment is available free of charge people still die from flu.

Flu shots? In the UK if you are in a risk group - over 60 or with specific existing conditions you can get one free. If not? Most chemists (drug stores) will offer one for about £10 or less.

Flu shots and after infection treatments aren't always successful in preventing deaths.

I think that the solution is to have both public and private healthcare.

That way people who can't afford private healthcare will still get something, while anyone who can afford it will use the private sector.

That's nice. Did you plan on offering us who simply wish to be responsible for our own health care an opt-out from also paying for those who can't afford or aren't responsible enough to take care of their own health care needs? Including the some say 30 million intentional illegals currently in the US today?

Or, do you deem to make us still pay for ours and all of them, anyway?

That is possible in the UK but those going private still have to pay for the NHS; or in Germany you can opt out of the public health care payments.

In the UK, even if you have private health care there are some situations where the NHS is the only provider e.g. trauma care after a traffic accident.

What we need is more free market capitalism into healthcare. (Examples from Rand Paul's plan)

Legalize Inexpensive Insurance Plans:

Obamacare not only told individuals that they must purchase insurance, but defined specifically what that insurance must be. The first order of business should be to ensure that Americans can purchase the health insurance coverage that fits their needs.
By imposing a variety of requirements on what plans can cover and how much they pay out in claims, Obamacare significantly increased premiums. By eliminating Obamacare’s essential health benefits requirement, and other restrictive coverage and plan requirements, low-cost insurance options will again be available to American consumers.

Help People Save To Buy Health Insurance:

• Authorize a tax credit (up to $5,000 per taxpayer) for individuals and families that contribute to HSAs to further incentivize health savings.

• Remove the maximum allowable annual contribution limit to HSAs, so that individuals may make unlimited contributions to an HSA.
Currently, HSA funds may not be used to purchase insurance or cover the cost of premiums. Allowing the use of HSA funds for insurance premiums will help make health coverage more affordable for American families.

• Allowing HSA funds to be used for a broader range of health-related expenses give Americans the freedom to choose the type of health care they wish to receive. Eligible expenses are expanded to include prescription and OTC drugs, dietary supplements, weight loss programs and physical exercise expenses, and direct primary care and concierge medicine services, among others.

Fair Tax Treatment of Health Insurance

• Equalize the tax treatment of the purchase of health insurance for individuals and employers, by allowing individuals to deduct the cost of their health insurance from their income and payroll taxes, they will be empowered to purchase insurance independent of employment.

Help Individuals Join Together to Purchase Insurance:

• Expand Association Health Plans (AHPs) allow small business owners and individuals to band together across state lines through their membership in a trade or professional association to purchase health coverage for their families and employees at a lower cost.

• In addition, we should allow individuals to pool together through any organization to purchase insurance.

• These new pooling mechanisms increase the buying power of individuals and small businesses to decrease costs, increase administrative efficiencies, and protect individuals with pre-existing conditions by giving them access to the group market.

"It's the same principle as Wal-Mart," Paul said in an interview last month with WKU Public Radio. "Wal-Mart can buy in such large bulk that you can get milk for a very reasonable price often just barely above their cost, and they do it because they have such large buying power."

Allow the Purchase of Insurance Across State Lines

• Increase access to health coverage by creating an interstate market for health insurance that allows insurers licensed to sell policies in one state to offer them to residents of any other state.

State Medicaid Flexibility

• Provides states new flexibilities for Medicaid waivers for innovative state plan designs.

Is this one of those "it ain't capitalist, it's corporatist" kind of schticks?

No.

Is this one of those "If the government dosn't own it officially, it's capitalism" schticks?

What we need is...

:D

You "we" dorkwad socialists are so expert on mastering and being fully responsible for your own health care that you consider yourself actually authorized to any degree to declare what any other individual needs?

I'm going to need proof, bozo, of how successful you've been providing your own health care needs without any "we", before I even listen to you declare how you intend to provide for mine and everyone else's.

Link? Cite? Tax records? Thanks.

That is good to know. So yes, you are right, she would still be alive. But still, if I want to go to a doctor for none life threatening care, I don't want to wait months. I am seeing my Primary next week. I made the appointment last Monday. I am not sure Canadian and EU people experience this level of service.

Certainly our system needs some fixes, but from what I have observed, going all the way the other direction has not worked well either.

Certainly our system needs some fixes, but from what I have observed, going all the way the other direction has not worked well either.

Last year I had two possible cancer sites, on my skin and a lump inside my nose. I was seen by the two appropriate specialists within a week. Both were diagnosed there and then as non-cancerous but the check had been necessary. I was scheduled for a walk-in operation on my nose within a month. At the time of seeing the specialist I was given a pre-op assessment. A week later I had to cancel the scheduled operation - because I had sneezed and the non-cancerous lump blew off... My operation slot went to another patient.

All that treatment was on the NHS at no cost to me except the hospital car park for one hour on the second visit. If there had been a delay between the diagnosis and the operation I could have had it done in the private hospital a mile from the NHS hospital. My health insurance would have covered the cost of the consultant, operation and the private hospital with a co-pay of fifty pounds.

The NHS does work, but if like me you have private health insurance and/or the ability to pay the bills yourself you can get treated faster.

Enjoy it!

As I'm sure the silver bullet cure all for all of your NHS's problems will be total nationalization of all HC.

It's always the answer!
