"A secretary at a public high school in Lancaster, PA, said she was pleasantly surprised her pay went up $1.50 a week ... she said [that] will more than cover her Costco membership for the year,"

Thus tweeted House Speaker Paul Ryan, bragging about the awesome wealth being generated because of the recently enacted tax cuts.

His tweet was deleted shortly thereafter when people mocked him for thinking $1.50 is a significant pay increase.

Paul Ryan deleted his embarrassing tweet of a blatant admission because he and Republicans don't want you to know the truth: the #GOPTaxScam is a gift to corporate America and the top 1% at your expense.

He also doesn't want you to know he got $500.000.00 from the Koch family. pic.twitter.com/ENXxASfAMP

As a thank you for passing a $1 trillion corporate tax cut, Paul Ryan received $500,000 in campaign contributions from the Koch brothers, which would probably cover the cost of buying a Costco. https:/*******piiWqzOEGo

It truly is amazing that no matter how many times trickle down economics has failed, most recently in Kansas, Republicans still claim it's not a giveaway to people who already have money.

You don't expect expressions of regret and shame, I hope.

Why does Paul Ryan hate poor people so much?
I really have no answer for that. His district included a massive assembly plant that was closed after the Great Recession hit. My home town also suffered a similar hit when GM shut down their plant here. Our Republican officials fought hard to keep the plant here and they fought for benefits to the victims. Ryan does not appear to feel any compassion for the poor in any district, including his own, He should be challenged in the primaries.

If you are referring to the Chrysler Daimler plant in Kenosha, that place was obsolete and had been ready to be closed for a long time.

Well the US industries have not been competitive with China, Japan, and the EU because of high taxation. Bringing down the tax base is bringing back industries to the US. The more that return the more jobs will be available. Then we have to look at small businesses. They appear to be benefiting a lot from the lower taxation on business and creating more jobs and paying better wages to their employees. I suggest and so do many financial planners that that is where most the economy is growing. Teachers are a different breed in that their pay base is dependent upon BOE's ability to raise revenue and state legislators to pass more tax dollars to schools districts. Teachers add nothing to our economy in the short term but do in the long term as they educate our young who will hopefully benefit from their efforts. So Paul Ryan was correct though a little premature in his proclamations.

Take Schumer and his Democrats the way they stumble around creating straw men and shut down government over none issues and stating government has a revenue problem not a spending problem is to bury their heads in the sand. All government does is spend and create more agencies to place more controls on the general population costing more and more dollars that needs to be borrowed. There is not enough revenue raised by taxes to cover expenses. If you and I had unlimited borrowing power like government has we could live life of Riley to right along side of our politicians, be they Republican, Democrat or Independent. But we can not live like that so we budget our income to cover our needs. Government needs to do the same thing or this Republic will die from within.

And what did Republicans just do? They cut revenue even more while increasing expenses. Brilliant.

Agreed. However, it is almost exclusively we hear from Republicans talking about the debt and deficit when Democrats are in the power, then remain absolutely silent when they are in power and run up the debt and deficit.

The most recent tax bill received Republican support because it raises the debt "only" another $1.5 trillion over the next decade.

Now we hear how great it is that someone gets another buck fifty to spend each week, as if they're going to go out and buy another home on that amount. Touting that as an achievement is the whole point of this thread. Completely out of touch with reality.

Well the US industries have not been competitive with China, Japan, and the EU because of high taxation.
Incorrect, or at least misleading. Nominal USA corporate taxes have been high but loopholes abound and any corporation paying full rates has criminally incompetent bean-counters. Wikipedia says,
A comparison of tax rates by countries is difficult and somewhat subjective, as tax laws in most countries are extremely complex... The tax rates displayed are marginal and do not account for deductions, exemptions or rebates. The effective rate is usually much lower than the marginal rate, but sometimes much higher.
USA is not a high tax burden country overall. Counting tax revenue as a percent of GDP, USA is at 26% while some EU countries are over 50%. Surprise: UAE is at 1.4%!

And foreign trade is robust: USA is the world's largest exporter after the combined EU, and ahead of China, Japan, and all others.

I don't buy the poor-mouthing. I know the smell of greed on the wind.

No, comparing tax rates is not difficult nor subjective. KPMG does it every year. Here's the 2017 worldwide corporate tax rate schedule:

https://home.kpmg.com/xx/en/home/services/tax/tax-tools-and-resources/tax-rates-online/corporate-tax-rates-table.html

And here's the 2017 worldwide personal tax rate schedule:

https://home.kpmg.com/xx/en/home/services/tax/tax-tools-and-resources/tax-rates-online/individual-income-tax-rates-table.html

You will note our personal income tax rate is far below other industrialized countries, and yet they have no problem with leading a very good life.

No, comparing tax rates is not difficult nor subjective. KPMG does it every year.
Those tables are very misleading because they list marginal (nominal) rates, not what is actually paid. Some US firms with huge incomes pay zero or negative taxes. The table I linked of tax revenues vs GDP shows the effects of those nominal rates.

That's because only in the minds of the truly demented is not taking someones property under threat of violence, a "giveaway" to the person you decided not to extort and rob.

There's maybe 4 people in all of congress that don't live in an elitist bubble.

It's always amusing when people bring up this canard. If you don't think people should have to pay taxes, fine. Then you can't complain when roads deteriorate, when roads aren't plowed, when airports don't work, etc.

The same people who complain about the above, and more, are the same people who would say what a shit place someplace is because everything's falling apart, completely ignoring all of the above comes out of taxes.

And no, I am not saying I like paying taxes. But neither do I like driving over shit roads (then again, I live in PA so that's not an option).

I know a guy who emigrated from Ukraine to California post-WWII with literally nothing. He did shit work, learned, started a business, succeeded, raised successful sons, one an ethical developer, the other a federal judge. Lou said he's proud to pay taxes to the country that let him succeed.

I didn't say that.

And none of what you said makes not taxing someone a giveaway to them.

If I decide to car jack you and DON'T blow your fucking knee caps off in the process....is that a free knee surgery giveaway?

Only in the mind of the those who are totally out of touch with reality.

Taxation is the same thing, it's legalized extortion and robbery, that's what it's called when anyone other than the government engages in taxing anyone, it's a felony and carries some pretty stiff penalties.

Deciding not to tax and letting people keep more of their money isn't a giveaway nor is it a loss to others who wish to apply violence in order to confiscate wealth for their own means.

And no, I am not saying I like paying taxes.

But you are saying not taxing someone (applying violence to confiscate wealth) is a giveaway to the people or person you've decided not to tax/extort.

Good thing they have all those taxes to fix the roads eh!!!

California collects bazzillions a year in taxes to "fix the roads"...they couldn't fix a pothole if their lives depended on it, they spend it all on....trains to nowhere and everything else not the roads.

1. Denies saying he said people should not have to pay taxes. So they should have to pay taxes.

2. Compares the gov't taxing people to "carjacking." So they should give up their cars?

3. Either taxation is a crime like carjacking, or it isn't.
