Hi there,
how can I delete my Literotica account?
I don´t need it further.

Thank you for help

Windcatcher

Thank you!
But I am old enough to do my own affairs, provided I know how to do it. Obviously, there is no switch or button in the settings, nor any option where one can delete his account.

I do not think that's very fair.

The only way to delete an account is to send a Private Message to Laurel, asking politely for your account to be deleted.

Most people just let the account dwindle away from lack of use.

To delete your account...

submit a story called Delete My Account

In the text section put the reason you want it delete...by nice.

In the note section put Delete My Account Please.

Submit the story making sure all required fields are filled in and/or checked.

I have to go now.

Thanks to all who answered me.

I think I know what to do now.
That here, as on other liberal websites no option, or a button with which you can end the membership I find not only unfair, but also patronizing.
It leaves me a bland taste. An account should be able to be deleted without having to ask permission from others.

Especially on a website, which enables adults, self-determined people to exchange information and stories, it is more than strange to be unable to dispose of themselves in some areas.

Lit doesn't allow user deletions of accounts because the Authors database is in the same file. If you delete your account, you can screw up the Authors database. For users with more threads than you, deleting a thread or account by vBulletin's normal delete function will also delete every post that follows; in an absolute worst case, you could reduce a Literotica Guru back to a Literotica Virgin.

There no reason you can't just go away and not let the door hit your ass on the way out. You haven't got any posts that reveal anything damaging, other than being on a "porn site."

Just wondering about your choice of words, "I don´t need it further."

Is this to imply that you "needed" it at one time? What changed that eliminated your "need"? Was there a life changing experience?

None of us really "need" our Literotica accounts....do we? It's an occasional diversion, an outlet, but certainly not a "need".

How about because I'm struggling with porn addiction and knowing that this account is here with all my subscriptions and favorites is a serious risk to my sobriety.

How about because my alias has been compromised and when people google my name (say when I'm applying to a job) they can now see a very detailed list of my sexual orientation, my fetishes, and my private, formerly anonymous, internet activity.

It is INSANE to not have a "delete my account" button. This is the only site I have ever encountered (that wasn't a scam) that required this kind of manual intervention to delete an account.

This site is based on some really old code, hence no delete button. Maybe once the rewrite is finished there will be, until then the only people who can access the database to delete records are the owners of the site.

I sure as hell wouldn't want just anyone messing around in my database(s).

Also if you delete your account, the BB posts don't go away. You will have to access each and replace what you typed with five dots ..... in order to delete them. Really, the only thing that happens when Laurel deletes your account is you are no longer able to login and if you published any stories there are deleted also. The BB side just remains the same.

So, if you don't delete you post on the BB they will remain forever after your login is deleted to live in infamy.

Odd for a first post.

I've seen quite a few accounts turned "guest".
Did they all go through the administrator?

Is there a way to temporarily close one's account ?

Yes, anyone with an account that reads “guest” went through site admin. No, there is no way to temporarily close an account here.

or were banned - few of those along the way

In most cases those accounts stay as is with “Loves Spam” added as their user title. Although, I have seen them outright deleted or just seemingly closed.

In order to get everything deleted you have to make your case to Laurel as to why. She may or may not comply.

I have had memberships on at least half a dozen adult sites (paid and free) that did not, and do NOT, have a "Delete My Account" button. They give various options for making an account inactive, reverting to a "free account" (with lesser features), and finally deleting the account.

While keeping you around may benefit them monetarily, some give the option of going "inactive", while retaining your profile and information, in part to accommodate those who may have the occasional "guilty purge" and impulsively delete their adult accounts only to later want them back, or whose personal circumstances many dictate a period of inactivity. I recently deactivated one of mine for a period of time while they worked out a new "non-Flash" version of their video chat rooms.

As an example, here's the account deletion directions for a major adult networking site to which I belong (name redacted). You can also revert to a "free" membership by simply turning off your auto renewal. Note: this is not for Literotica.

"1. You can DEACTIVATE your profile so it cannot be viewed by anyone, but can still be reactivated at a later date without losing any of your information (including profile, images and videos).

Desktop Only

Log in into your xxxxx.xxx account (Desktop version).
Click Settings at the top of your xxxxx.xxx page, and then click Account Settings.
At the bottom of that page, click on the button that says Deactivate My Membership.
A small pop-up box will ask you if you are sure, click OK.

Mobile Only

Log in into your xxxxx.xxx account (Mobile version).
Click on the button with 3 lines at the top left corner of your xxxxx.xxx page.
Click on Account Settings + in the side menu, select Membership.
Scroll to the bottom and click on the link Account Preferences located under Account Management.
Click on the link Deactivate your account.
Tell us why you are taking this action and select Next.
A small pop-up box will ask you if you are sure, select OK.
You will now be logged out of your account and will see the login page, this means your account has been deactivated.

Or

2. You can permanently DELETE your profile and all associated information on xxxxx.xxx , which means should you change your mind at a later date, there will be no way to bring your profile and information back again.

If you wish to permanently delete your profile from xxxxx.xxx, please email us the following to xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx

Your account username
Your account password
The email address associated with the account
The membership package you have

WARNING - Please remember that selecting option 2 means you are confirming that you do not wish to use xxxxx.xxx ever again. There is also no way to retrieve this information once it is gone.
"

Point being, Literotica most certainly is not alone in not having a one click account deletion button.

^^^^^ I did not know this. You learn new things everyday!:D

ETA: Okay, tried to follow the directions but never found the settings link? There is a User CP link on the BB side and an options link on the Author's side but neither of those have a settings or deactivate account And the lit app doesn't have three bars on the left and the only setting are Color Scheme and Set PIN.d

So, which site are you talking about here?

Ah... never mind, there is on sentence - This is not for Literotica kinda buried in the text. So, never mind and why would you put something like this in a post when it doesn't ever pertain to Lit?
