Oh, gawd, it happens to me every time. Someone I know drags me to see Star Wars

I mean, doesn't anyone notice how campy these moves are? It's like watching "The Muppets take the Universe". I keep expecting Ms. Piggy will blow up a star destroyer.

It's shallow, there is no character development. Luke's training of Rey had no detail.

Also, the bad guy is some beta male wimp. The Emperor did say something that was right, "Your no Vader". Oh, how true is that? And Rey beat him twice with no training.

I mean, l like the Start Wars concept. I also like Star Trek. But really, it's time for both of them to go away.

I will eventually see The Force Awakens, probably out of some sense of completion, as I grew up with the original trilogy.

I am more indifferent to Star Wars these days. Their universe seems rather unimaginative and small in scope. It's like Star Wars....for this small band of people in this one sector of this one galaxy.

Ahhh, actually, let's just follow the same ten people engaged in the same predictable struggle for eight movies and counting now....

I adulted on the first trilogy and have skipped the rest, especially toys. But yeah, SW compared to known reality is like biblical Xianity vs Hinduism or the Mayan cosmos, a very constricted space-time nexus. I suppose SW's faults come from being 1) character-driven and 2) spewed by George Lucas, 3M (Mumbling Master of Merchandising).

BTW I formerly worked near Skywalker Ranch. Yawn. It was Lucas Valley Rd long before George and Skywalker landed. There went the neighborhood, which used to be major nerdland. The homes of Wordstar and AutoCAD were nearby. I was there at the end of the era of Cyra McFadden's The Serial, when Marin matrons screwed Cuban fitness coaches while their dobermans were Rolfed. Odd times. Lucas almost made it all boring. Except for cocaine.

Isn't there an app that turns all SW characters into Jar-Jar?

I'm so happy I don't bother seeing movies I know I'm not going to enjoy, especially if they're basically about has been telegraphed so obviously over years upon years that a blind person could see the gist before the next episode comes along.

I'm also happy I can relax and enjoy a good epic space opera yarn that offers pleasant escapism for two hours like Star Wars without having to go into Liza Minelli histrionics afterwards because I wasn't strong enough to say no to something that I intrinsically do not enjoy.

Nobody to blame but ya'self, sis. :D

I quite enjoyed it as a couple of hours where I didn’t have to think... and you may be right about the shallowness but it is a kids movie and the young un’s in the theatre seemed to enjoy it... I like the fact a generation of little girls can have role models like Rey, certainly beats the shitty Disney princess crap... as a general rule, you should never try to overanalyse Star Wars - that way madness lies, just enjoy it for the easy escapism it is... then watch a foreign language film for balance, I recommend ‘The Death of Mr. Lazarescu’, a cheery little Romanian film about a dying old man transported throughout the night from one hospital to another as the ambulance crew struggle to find a bed for him... you’re welcome :)

It's no different than the endless parade of movies based upon comic books and games. Don't even get me started on the remakes...

I think we have too much entertainment bandwidth.

As a kid, I enjoyed the first three Star Wars films. Then they waited way too long to make the next three. I can barely remember what they were about. The most memorable character was Jar Jar Binks. I have not even bothered with the latest ones. For all the Star Wars fans I'm sure they're a must see but the fact that the movies were made out of sequence and the whole thing is basically one giant war movie with a fairly predictable end kind of turned me off.

Much bigger fan of Star Trek. With the latest reboot, it's nice to see them doing justice to the characters from TOS but this too seems like they're taking an old formula and sticking with it instead of risking something different. I want to see new characters, not rehashes of old ones.

People still go to dark rooms and watch movies with strangers?
Back in the day, we took subs and beers with us. Now it's subs and doms. Times change. Further back, before talkies, film showings were social gatherings, often loudly boisterous. Cigars were smoked. Gin was swigged. Objects were thrown. It was like Sunday mass in a Sicilian church.

I remember back in college actually going on a double date to a local "art theater" to see a porno. I believe it was Through the Looking Glass. All I remember is that it was super creepy...look before you sit down.

After the first three-and I mean them as the first three not that, oh those were 4-6 BS they've been nothing but cash cows getting worse and worse as the go.

The original three were hokey by today's standards, but when I saw Star Wars I was nine and it was pure magic as were the sequels. I look at movies now and can't see any of them having any impact years down the line.

Mostly because they're all remakes anyway.

The Emperor did say something that was right, "Your no Vader".

You've probably been corrected re: the proper usage of "you're/your" three dozen times since you started posting here. And you still can't get it right.

Just an observation. :)

I do agree that having a female Jedi as the main character is very big step forward.

I think I will have to stop expecting SW to be a serious drama.

Yes, but your tough. You can handle it.

Yeah, but yer tough. Yez can handle it.
Fixed.

Modern Anglish is deficient. 'You' is both singular and plural, a travesty. Dialects treat 2nd-person plural as yez, youse, y'all, etc, but those aren't mainstream. Anglish needs electroshock therapy. Calling Dr Benway!

And your / you're / yer ?? Whatever.
