I submitted a story the other day and it was published today. The story itself, while not for everyone, is clearly being down voted by a certain user. He has posted multiple comments under different names and doesn't even try to hide his typical prose; not even when he talks to himself.

In any event the story is getting a bad rating, but it doesn't stop there. Stories that had previously been over 4.5 are sinking very quickly. These stories have had the H tag since they were written and now all will be without in in less than a day.

It really shouldn't matter, but I worked pretty hard on writing all those and this feels a bit like vandalism.

Is there anything anyone can suggest to do about it?

You can click on the report this story function located at the bottom of the story page and state what's happening and request a sweep.

if you don't know, a sweep is something the site runs to erase suspicious votes. So if this is the same person a lot of the votes will go away. As for the comments you have the ability to delete them if you wish.

To directly answer your question, I think we all have 'fans' like that.

I just looked, your story is in LW and features BBC....yeah, there is nothing good that will come of that. LW is polluted with the most sexist racist homo phobic women hating self loathing pond scum you can find...and that's the better part of the readership.

If that's the story you want to write and you feel good about it then best thing in that category is to sit back and either laugh at these idiots (my choice) or pity them because they're a sad ass lot.

LW stories are 1 bomb and troll magnets so you can't take the score seriously.

If you think it's deliberate and malicious, send a PM to Laurel, state your case and ask her to investigate. She will be able to see all of this account holder's traffic (tell Laurel all the alts), and make an assessment. She can terminate accounts.

She can also specifically sweep your story file - note that Valentine's Day comp sweeps will start soon, too, and they will also clear out junk.

Also, remember you can delete any comments left on your stories. My advice - don't engage with this person, just delete and deny them oxygen.

Honestly the race never crossed my mind, the character isn't even black, not that it would matter if he was. I reported the story, but really you're right, I'm just going to have to choose not to get upset over it.

I would never think about engaging this person; that is what someone like this is after. He seems to have a lot of energy for it, so I'm sure switching his IP wouldn't be much of an issue.

Just sort of upsetting that it spilled over into everything I've written or recorded.

really? that makes the comments all the more off the wall as several of them I read mention it. Then again it seems they're obsessed with black men regardless.

He's supposed to be mysterious. I make it really clear that there is no way to tell what his background really is, that in the end he is just home to the island. He has pale blue eye's for f's sake.

Anyways, thanks for the tip about reporting. The boy is still posting comments. I just need to ignore it.

Jeezum crow, those are some ugly comments.

I've been one bombed, but they didn't leave any comments.

You don't need to ignore it. You can delete his comments. That's in your control.

Oh, I get those 1* bombs and comments all the time. Just delete the comments and trust to the sweeps to remove the 1*'s.

After Sammi Woo, I kind of decided to just not worry about it. Nothing you can do other than delete the comments and report that you're being bombed.

I saw a sweep a few days ago, almost all my stories saw their ratings improve. And I had a vote knocked off of "Screw Your Roses, Asshole" today. Not nice but you get used to it.

At least if you get comments, you know why they don't like the story, whether their reasons make sense to you or not. But when you get ten or twelve votes in quick succession and watch your ratings nosedive, then climb back up again afterwards, you know something is up and have no idea why. So, no point in worrying about it.

Oh, I know all about that. It was pretty blatant when it was being done to "Sammi Woo". I coul see it happening to "Screw Your Roses" yesterday and today but this time round I really don't care and it's not the sort of story that'll soar in the ratings anyhow. A bit to abusive, really, altho I did love the ending.

It's sort of yawn, I mean honestly, you've got to be some kind of total loser to do that. I kind of feel sorry for them and they definitely have issues.

wow that is pretty crazy. Why can't people understand that there are hundreds of different interests; not everyone is going to write the way you may like.

Oh, here we go. The morning contest one stars coming thru. Two in the last few minutes.

There really isn't much the site can do, some people are highly motivated to disturb. It sucks for people who are creating content and using the site for what it's for.

The guy whom became my number one fan is obviously (user name) Justgr8, his inept command of the English language spills over, in the same manner, into all his posts. He even forgets to log out sometimes when agreeing with himself. It's far from comforting to see that I'm not even close to his only target. This guy should probably be on an FBI list somewhere. The level of dedication he has for this could never be eclipsed by a moderator. (all of his stories he follows are flame wars in the comments perpetrated by himself)

His profile, he describes himself as a published poet, if you have the stomach for it, here is his poetry: (voting and comments disabled, of course)

https://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=3560644&page=submissions

I don't usually like to say anything bad about anyone's creative effort, but really if one of my children tried to hand this in for an English assignment I would be disappointed in them.

Hmmm, an insight tho. Quite revealing when you read them. I tend to think poetry reveals the soul of the writer in a way that stories don't, or at least not to anywhere near the same extent.

Back when I posted stories here I knew what to expect. The early morning one bombers who just go up and down the entire category. A rise as votes of people who actually read it start coming through.

Always between 12-12:30 a half dozen one bombs in succession. Obviously a personal troll who logs in at work at lunch time and turns heir alts loose.

Another rise, then one more dip near the end of the day when the personal trolls see I have a new story-I fully believe personal trolls fav you and check your page to see when you have something new.

After day one most votes seem legit. Except for contests that has a whole different pattern.

I've noticed this too. I had a story pop up to #12 on the I/T all time list a couple weeks ago, rarified air for a no-talent clown like myself, but in the course of a day I was 1 bombed backed to the stone age. I think there may have been a sweep, as I've come back from the sewers and made it back to the 2nd page :)

I'll agree with the other posters, I delete comments left and right if they're hateful. I wish I could find the extra time to write stories that these people have to spew venom.

I find myself in a moral dilemma about deleting comments. On one hand I know they are nonsense and written for the purpose of disrupting.

A the same time, I'm anti-censorship in general.

The act of deleting comment would give me an icky "Big Brother" feeling I would rather avoid............really being tested though :)

The top lists-all time especially- are patrolled by the readership of the authors who have long maintained spots there. Some of these readers act on their own accord thinking they are doing their fav author a favor bombing competition, others are encouraged by the author to do so.

My two cents is this.

Personally I never remove a comment and for two reasons. One, it would let them think it got to me.

Two, I have noticed on other people's stories trolls commenting "oh, you going to delete this one too? You delete everything you don't like!" so basically deletion gives them a reason to come back. If you leave it they generally don't post a second time.

That's my take, but as time goes on you'll figure out what works for you

There's a big difference between "you can't say that" and "I'm not giving you a platform to say that". If you delete somebody's comment they still have plenty of ways to express that opinion. They can write it up and submit it here in Reviews and Essays, if they can meet Laurel's standards; if not, there are plenty of free blogging services.

So why don't they do that? Because nobody would read it. The only way they can get eyeballs is by parasitising something that people do want to read; they're leeching off the effort that Laurel & Manu put into building up this site, and the effort that you and other authors put into writing stories.

I haven't had much problem with them myself, but from what I can see many troll commenters are spammers. Instead of advertising crappy fake watches or whatever, they're trying to advertise their own crappy opinions that nobody wants to read.

The fact that people are ranting about BBC in a story that doesn't even contain BBC says it all: they're not actually there for a conversation about your story, they just want to hijack it for the readers that they can't earn for themselves. It's as if I wrote in to the local paper and demanded that they publish my political opinions... in the sports section. The right to free speech is not a right to the pulpit of my choice.

There are other reasons why you might choose to leave those comments up, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over the "censorship" angle.

Deleting a mindless comment is no different to cleaning shit graffiti off your fence or dog shit off your lawn. Would you let your own property be spoiled by some ass-hat with no artistic ability or a dog with no manners?

It's only censorship when someone else sets the rules and does the removal for you. If you as the author want to keep a tidy yard, that's looking after your own property.

But those who keep every comment as a badge of pride? I don't know - maybe some people like to live in the worst looking house on the street.

Have you no pride in your own house? Don't you want it looking its best? Why is your writing any different?
