Government shutdown over illegals?

Nope. It is Democrats shutting down the government unless their unfetteted importation of Democrat voters is allowed to continue in perpetuity vs everyone else.

A handful of RINOS are bending the Dems way out of reflexive habit.

Also, Que is a dumbass.

Such a blatant attempt to confuse by hijacking an avi is reason for me to put this 'guy' on ignore.. I don't tolerate attributing words not spoken, nor pretending to be another... it's immaturity at its worst.

DACA *was* in it. just not DACA on steroids that the Democrats now want. The Democrats have moved that goal post. They don't want actual DACA, what they want is absolute amnesty not only for anyone that they are going to call a child but anybody related to anybody they call a child...Basically, this is just amnesty II....which would have been absolutely unnecessary if the Democrats had kept their word after amnesty one and kept future illegals out.

Ask Chuck Schumer why he cannot get nine Democrats on board to a bill that funds all of that plus makes Obama's illegal DACA order lawful. Nothing would change for DACA. Status quo assured.

Citation?

From what I understand there was nothing for the dreamers in the CR.

You understand wrong. The complaint was that there was a poison pill within DACA in that it would also end chain migration and the lottery and build the wall they refused those quite reasonable provisos.

Trump will probably leave chain migration, end the lottery and get his wall.

The only point of including DACA in there was to sweeten the deal for Democrats to agree to the wall.

when the Democrats said no way Republicans said okay fine then we'll talk about DACA some other time let's get down to the business of spending. Democrats said no you must include DACA and only DACA and none of the things that you want or we walk. The shutdown is entirely on the Democrats regardless of what your pet politicians and their pet tame journalist tell you.

Could you point out the citation in your reply?

A non whackadoodle site would be nice too. Thanks.

Well then so the CR had nothing in it about DACA, nothing in it about the Dreamers and you're just talking out of your ass.

If you can't supply the basic text in the CR or some basic citation supporting what you are saying then what's the point really.

Unless you just are advancing pie in the sky ideas to support your partisan BS?

What she said :)

Good synopsis from Allahpundit:

First offer from Republicans: Let’s fund the government and pass a DREAM amnesty, as both sides want to do, and in return you give us some concessions on chain migration and the wall. Republicans have no choice but to use DREAM as leverage for those concessions despite their support for the policy because Democrats are incredibly reluctant to tighten admission policies under the best of circumstances. So how about a little something in return for DREAM, in the name of compromise? Nope, says Schumer. Won’t do it. We’ll give you a few billion in mad money for border improvements but we’re not doing anything that might move the U.S. towards skills-based criteria for immigrants and away from “bring the whole family!” policies.

The proposal was to agree to a three week extension to allow for a vote on DACA Feb 8th. Schumer said no, give us DACA now, NO concessions on immigration at all or no CR.

this is entirely on Schumer and he figured he could just post some pictures of trump in the past saying maybe this country needs a good shutdown.

So there is a shutdown. Which is absolutely fine with me. I fully understand that the Press will vilify Republicans it doesn't matter the Republicans are the majority or in the minority when it shut down happens it's always the Republicans fault that's the rules. I get that. But now you don't get DACA at all. Congratulations.

probably no vote on February 8th. If there is a vote on February 8th it will go down in flames. Again, congratulations!

In the alternative if you want to just believe your own reality you have to at least then decide that Chuck Schumer just out of the blue with no prior discussion of DACA being included in the continuing resolution just suddenly made an unreasonable demand that suddenly the Republicans should just give him what he wants with no prior discussion or negotiation.

How did you think discussions about DACA came to be attached to the CR, if not by the party actually writing the CR?

You really only have two alternatives here: it was a republican proposal or it was simply Chuck Schumer being completely unreasonable, making a sudden demand for an unrelated (illegal) program that has zero to do with funding. Your choice.

Democrats made so much hay with the last shutdown they figured they would go for it again and somehow benefit. I believe that they calculated wrong but that of course remains to be seen.

Que would rather win the battle than win the war which is why he's such a loser.

I like how him and his fellow BroPatrol members pretend like this doesn't also negatively impact them too. A government shut down isn't partisan.

WTF are you smoking? DACA has been in the news and has been a legislative priority for the democrats since Trump decided to end it. Regardless that most Americans and American businesses support it.

And HOW did that get attached specifically to the CR negotiations?

You have exactly two choices: it occurred exactly the way I said with the Republicans offering it as an inducement to fund the wall, or Schumer pulled it out of his ass. Which one?

What a load of horseshit.

The Graham Durbin proposal could easily have passed, and it was rejected by the Orange Assclown (ie President John Kelly)

The Dems agreed to fund part of the fucking wall, end the Visa Lottery, and increase border security (mainly surveillance) along with protection for Dreamers.

All these things were still on the table and being negotiated.

The hang up that led to the shutdown by the shitshow Rs was not even about immigration, it was about timing.

Inside the frantic 24 hours that led to a shutdown

Despite the finger-pointing, Democrats said Schumer and Trump were actually quite close to a deal. But they said McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) wouldn’t allow a funding extension of a few days to get them across the finish line.

“There’s no willingness on the other side of aisle to provide an extension that would allow us to get to an agreement,” sighed Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.).

The president called Schumer on Friday morning and invited him to the White House to craft the broad contours of a deal on government funding and immigration . . Schumer offered to increase defense spending levels and provide money for border security. The Democratic leader believed he went even further toward Trump's position on borders than the immigration legislation crafted by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), according to a person briefed on the meeting.

While we're pissing around the edges of a budget CR with migration trivia, I have a budget fix: "Except for disaster relief, no state may receive more federal funding than it has paid into federal coffers." We all should pay our own way, hey?

Why don't you explain it to Adrina. According to her, DACA was never included in any version of the continuing resolution.

I am once again being demanded that I provide citations for people who don't know the basics about what's going on on a given situation.

While we're pissing around the edges of a budget CR with migration trivia, I have a budget fix:

1) Repeal the XVI Amendment (which was unconstitutional in the first place).

2) Close and disband the IRS. No more income tax, and no more income tax returns to be filed.

3) Provide legislation to fund the Federal government from the state legislatures. No state government would be required to fund those laws which it could not support, nor would they receive funding for those programs they rejected for funding. (State checks and balances on Federal power).

I was responding to YOUR bullshit that the Dems refused to concede a single thing to the Rs. Not true.

Well you are right there. I did know they had bent a bit on the wall and I should have acknowledged that. I was not aware that they had conceeded on the Visa Lottery. It makes sense for them to do so because that is pretty indefensible and it doesn't specifically benefit them. I'm happy to assume you are correct on that.

The specific sticking point was Schumer said in no uncertain terms that no one in his caucus would vote on anything that included ending chain migration. in order for his caucas not to have to be on record to end that Mconnell offered that they could simply agree to allow a one-time rule change to fund the CR with a simple majority. No dice said Schumer.

You can be proud of Schumer, standing firm and shutting down the government specifically to maintain the status quo of unlimited chain migration at the expense of the dreamers.

As I am sure you are aware, if amnesty is granted to the DACA 30 year old children it will not be just the 800,000 currently in the illegal program, it'll be 3.6 million and if chain migration is left in place with that amnesty it will result in between 12 and 20 million being granted amnesty. All of whom will be Democrat voters. You can understand why this is important to Chuck.
