During his testimony before the Senate committee investigating the con artist's collusion with Russia during the presidential campaign, Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson's attorney, Joshua Levy, revealed at least one person has died as a result of the dossier's release.
Neither Levy or Simpson make any other reference to the death, or who the person may be, during the remainder of the testimony. Speculation, including from myself, about the deceased has fallen on Oleg Erovinkin, a former KGB general and chief of staff to Igor Sechin.
Sechin, the CEO of state-owned Russian oil giant Rosneft, plays a major role in the dossier, which accuses him of having secret meetings with Trump campaign officials as an intermediary of the Russian government. Erovinkin was found dead in his car in December 2016, according to Russian media. It was later claimed that he died of a heart attack.
Steele wrote in the dossier which was dated July 19, 2016, that much of the information it contained was provided by a source close to Sechin. That source was Erovinkin, according to Russia expert Christo Grozev of Risk Management Lab, a think-tank based in Bulgaria.
“Insiders have described Erovinkin to me alternately as ‘Sechin’s treasurer’ and ‘the go-between between Putin and Sechin,’" Grozev wrote. "One thing that everyone seems to agree – both in public and private sources – is that Erovinkin was Sechin’s closest associate.”
“I have no doubt that at the time Erovinkin died, Mr Putin had Mr Steele’s Trump dossier on his desk. He would – arguably – have known whether the alleged... story is based on fact or fiction," Grozev continued.

"It's a voluntary interview, and in addition to that he wants to be very careful to protect his sources," Levy said. "Somebody's already been killed as a result of the publication of this dossier and no harm should come to anybody related to this honest work."
