I thought liberals LOVED taxes...

It says...

Totally different than after you grabbed the goalpost and took off with it at a dead sprint.

So going back to your first post....... as long as the government is of your preferred flavor (because there will always be idiots in government running total wastes of money regardless of flavor) you're ok with it.

What flavor of government do you enjoy handing your money over to?

Obviously my point went over (or through) your head. My bad. Let me lower it to a level you can understand.

Fair enough?

If that is what you believe, then unsurprisingly you are misinformed. Yet again.

The best government is the least government. People who have a work ethic are the backbone of a strong country and a strong economy, nothing weaker than a country where the people are dependent on government for everything and refuse to do anything to contribute, to themselves or their country. The United States would be best served if the government were sized down to about 10% of its present size and services.

Interesting thread to start for the guy who says "Please, no religious or political discussion."

The ten most taxed counties in America are all located in NY and NJ...

Or is it that nobody likes taxes but liberals understand that this is a team game and we aren't going to always take the hit for everybody else. What was the term the right uses? Skin in the game?

Socialist....liberals = pro liberty and are by definition ultra capitalistic, they think it's the governments job to ensure civil rights not an egalitarian outcome in life through government control over the means of production and distribution of goods and services.

Obviously my point went over (or through) your head. My bad. Let me lower it to a level you can understand.

Fair enough?

If composing your posts in a manner that clearly and effectively communicates your thoughts and feelings that picks one or the other is what you call 'lowering it to a level' I can understand sure.

But do you care if it's how the government is spending your taxes or if it's a government run or supported by idiots??

Or both?

Or do you still not understand that you've made two different statements and claimed they were the same thing?

Let me ask a question... We're $20Trillion in debt, and what do we have to show for it?

Taxes are supposed to be for NEEDS (and we don't have $20T in needs), not WANTS (liberals have an endless supply of unsustainable wants and 'entitlements')

Both actually.

In what universe??

Liberalism- highly individualistic, liberty focused, ultra capitalistic, pro civil rights. Basically libertarians who don't think not every government role should be contracted out to the private sector.

Socialism - government ownership over the means of production and distribution of goods and services, highly collectivist, anti-liberty, anti-civil rights in the name of collective equality.

What about those things are compatible to you?

Liberals love taxes when they are buying votes for themselves. When it’s to give money back to people who work they are against it.

The fact that you cannot do one without the other. It's hilarous. Ayn Rand had it right all along and nobody saw it. I can't be free of you until we've solved enough problems that I don't need you. But I need you to solve the problems. You want to skip to part III but we need the first two chapters.

Government is parasitic by nature... nothing but a drain, so the idea is to limit the drag it is on the economy to the absolute minimum

Government is not parasitic by nature or if it is so is family and community and that would make it a symbiotic relationship. Neither of us can move without the other. The important part is the balance.

But even that is wrong because government is a fucking tool and anybody who can't reach that conclusion should just leave the table because you lack the necessary faculties to be involved in the conversation.

How, precisely, would you propose we run the extremely complex societies most of us currently live in without some form of government? Pretty much every culture in the world, once the groups of humans reach a certain size, develop some form of government. While I'm not generally a fan of functionalist explanations for the existence of social institutions, this would be one instance in which it's pretty clear that governments perform important social functions.

The fact that you cannot do one without the other.

That's not a fact that's a fallacy.

Liberalism and socialism are antithetical to one another.

Anything to alleviate government of it's duties and it's officers of any responsibility for their actions......but only (D)emocrats, it's totally (R)'s fault when they are being pieces of shit.

Name a single way so I can shoot it down.

Liberalism is explicitly capitalistic, as in pro max liberty sounds like a libertarian when it comes to the voluntary exchange of goods and services for profit or otherwise.

Definition of liberalism
1 : the quality or state of being liberal
2 a often capitalized : a movement in modern Protestantism emphasizing intellectual liberty and the spiritual and ethical content of Christianity
b : a theory in economics emphasizing individual freedom from restraint and usually based on free competition, the self-regulating market, and the gold standard (see gold standard 1)
c : a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy (see autonomy 2) of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties; specifically : such a philosophy that considers government as a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities (such as those involving race, gender, or class)
d capitalized : the principles and policies of a Liberal (see 1liberal 6b) party

Socialism is the exact opposite, it calls for the elimination of private property and markets for that property to be exchanged on. It is by definition government or collective ownership over the means of production and control over the distribution of goods and services.

Definition of socialism
1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2 a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property
b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3 : a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

So what you mean is the difference between the dictionary definition and reality?

There is no difference between the dictionary, encyclopedia and textbook definition and reality.

i happily pay my taxes.

funniest year was when a bush was in office and i was making less than $10 an hour full time entry level social work. i paid into the govt, and some loved ones with a banking business got back a fat refund. a sign of the times. trump will be similar, i predict. time will tell. i'm still waiting for them to cut military expenses. seems like weapons is the business to be in.

It's almost like you want Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel, just so you can make money off the arms race.

We are pumping money into right wing Honduras and Guatemala! Look at that valve. Puppet governments pop right back up. I hate that my tax money goes to Central American military. I'd much rather it go to the mentally ill and elderly.
