The Isolated Political Blurt Thread

It is now December 26th.

I will bet that Trump will mention "Merry Christmas" in his public statements three more times in the next two weeks.

The funny thing is that thinking Christians wouldn't associate "merry" with Christmas at all. Really trivializes the birth of Jesus. Shouldn't be anything merry about it.

The birth of Jesus and his crucifixion are two very different things. The birth of your savior should be celebrated, the death and "resurrection" should be more somberly observed. This is, of course, if you believe in such nonsense...

Celebrated, yes. But "merry" has different connotations than celebrating a religious miracle (which lasted only a few days, with him off to Egypt in a rush and a bunch of babies being murdered in his wake). "Having a laughing good time" is not really the same as "celebrate." (And no one at the time was reported to have thrown a festive party for the birth of Christ.)

Because there was no Christ to throw a party for. Are birthday parties not supposed to be jolly and celebritied??

However, I do not believe. I do it only for the kids. They know my position on the matter. However, I play along for them. They enjoy it, and frankly, so do I.

Celibratied??

Is that the correct spelling? For some reason, it seems off to me.

We'll leave it that you're one of those fundamentalist evangelists who doesn't delve into the theology too much. There are a lot of those around--the ones who push a "merry" Christmas down a secular nation's throat, for instance. Well, OK.

(Will you faint to find out that the story was set up to usurp existing pagan rituals rather than having any literal meaning in timing and geography?)

I'll stick with my observation that those who are so hung up with "merry" aren't in touch well with the theology of Christianity. I hope they didn't invite all of those babies Herod had slain in Bethlehem to try to negate Christ to the merry birthday party--or expect Jesus to show up as he and his family were hightailing it to Egypt on day 13.

Maybe it should be celebritated. If enough celebs show up.

Alas, Xian theology has no basis in verified history. Xians are thus free to spin or steal whatever myths makes them happy. Look, angels! BTW how does one kill an immortal deity? Doesn't that take magic mistletoe or something?

Accord to the Amazons (I watched the Wonder Woman movie yesterday) they had a nifty sword that did that. But a god told Wonder Woman you had to be another god to do it. Luckily her father was Zeus and she hadn't been formed out of clay like your Amazon queen mother told her (and she seemed to believe) after all. Still, one god killing another is a pretty messy fight.

baci, Tonald Drump (Drumpf) has just promised America's billionaires a king's ransom.Yet, they choose to dump employees on Christmas.

Problem with killing immortal deities is that the fuckers won't stay dead. They tend to reincarnate sooner or later, maybe after some reassembly or stewing. Even those who don't make it back all the way are usually given some low-rent realm to oversee. But they're still hanging around. It's like the country song: How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away?

yuck

santorum, all over the news feed.

Tonald Drump used santorum to paste up lie, to cover up the truth. It was the Communications Workers of America that put in the effort and work.

CWA spokesperson noted in an email to ThinkProgress that AT&T executives had agreed to the special bonus only after CWA argued that its employees should be given the “$4,000 wage increase promised by the Republican corporate tax cut.” CWA officials also reached out to CEOs at other corporations where its members work, like Verizon and American Airlines, to make their case.

Republican leaders have promised that households would receive on average, a yearly $4,000 wage increase,” they wrote. “They also claimed that the corporate tax plan would produce new jobs in the U.S. as companies return work from offshore.”

They added that the $1,000 bonus was “a drop in the bucket compared to what was promised.”

Nasty surprise, that the bonuses will be paid for, by paychecks that should have gone to coworkers.

AT&T, which is giving $1,000 bonuses to 200,000 employees in the wake of the Republican tax overhaul, is also handing out hundreds of pink slips to workers in Illinois and five other Midwest states.

About 600 workers across a variety of positions, from retail sales clerks to satellite technicians, were notified of the layoffs last week, according to sources close to the situation.

Last week, the CWA announced it had reached a tentative contract agreement with AT&T for 21,000 wireless workers in 36 states that included a 10.1 percent raise over four years and job security protections in the event a retail store or call center closes.

The employees are set to vote Jan. 12 on the new agreement.

How did AT&T save $700,000.00 ?

DirectTV installers, service workers, call center employees in every state, lost their jobs.

East, West, Midwest Southwest, West

Some lost their jobs before Christmas.

AT&T will get a nice tax deduction for its “bonus” PR stunt (already announced hundreds will be laid off across several states, with likely more layoffs announced next year

After 41 years I am a victim of the Sept layoffs @ AT&T. The company is using the bonus headlines as a diversion...they don't care about the employee

gsgs comment- I suppose that they were one of the "legacy" employees that were dumped. They said hundreds would lose their jobs.

More like thousands...

Your teacher really told you Secretary of State is 3rd in order of Precedence? Nope. That's more like beyond 10th. Then he shut you down when you told him Speaker of the House is 4th in line of power? Sounds like he's jealous you're smarter than he is. We'll talk to him about it when school starts back. Just keep your cool and don't mention it until then. I'll make sure the principal is there too.

Black Market Sold Drones Used in Russian Base Attack

The Kremlin may have accused the United States of a drone swarm attack on its naval base in Syria. But [we] found the drones for sale on a social media arms market.

Russia has all but accused the U.S. military of being behind the improvised drone attack on its air base in Syria last week, claiming the aircraft could have only come from a major military power like the United States.

But days before the unique, jury-rigged drone bomber surfaced in the attack, a seller in a rebel social media arms market based in Syria’s Idlib province posted an advertisement for an identical-looking model of rickety homebrew drone along with similar munitions, casting serious doubt on Moscow’s tales of high tech transfer.
Today, Syria. Tomorrow... Florida?
