OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens sent a letter this week to season-ticket holders, suite holders and sponsors about the number of no-shows at M&T Bank Stadium this season, citing a protest during the national anthem as one potential reason.

The letter, which was signed by team president Dick Cass, mentions that there have been empty seats in the past when the Ravens have struggled on the field. But this year is different, with Baltimore in the midst of a playoff race.

"The numbers [of no-shows] are higher, and it is noticeable," Cass wrote in the 656-word letter. "There are a number of reasons for the no-shows, but surely the one-time protest in London has been a factor."

The following week in Baltimore, the Ravens knelt in prayer before standing for the anthem. Fans at M&T Bank Stadium booed the players when they took a knee.

The NFL is in trouble for many reasons. The protests may have incensed a particular demographic and maybe the final straw for some others, but there's a lot more reasons than that.

Personally I'm amazed the Metoo movement has not set upon them like locusts considering the amount of sex offenders and abusers taking the field every week.

My opinion on the protests is that I don't agree with them or the source. A bunch of entitled millionaires, no small number of whom(Ray Lewis, Rothlisberger etc) have committed crimes and gotten away with them, which to me is social injustice in itself. They're not a believable group to protest injustice.

Not to mention the disingenuous asshole who started this had no issues with black bodies in the streets when he was a starting QB Seems when he was benched and ready to lose the rest of the big dollar contract he became an 'activist' he's also promoting violence against the police, whereas at least the others following him don't seem to be.

But...its their right so...whatever.

On the other hand I find myself just as if not more annoyed at the "Patriots' who are boycotting the league over the protests to them I say this...

You're okay with players raping women, beating women, beating people, child abuse, drug use, ped use, criminal behavior, gun toting, murder, attempted murder, shootings, the NFL lying about how much cancer awareness money goes to cancer, at one point charging the veterans to be on the field etc etc...

But taking a knee has you 'real Americans' in a huff? I have another word for them and its not Patriots.

I agree with you that the fans can't really complain about players taking a knee while ignoring all the other things players do off the field.

I strongly disagree with you about NFL athletes being entitled, they are far from it.

Yes and no-to your last point-you don't think guys making millions to play any port aren't entitled? Yes there is a great physical risk, but soldiers and cops could die any day for pittance of a salary.

Many of these guys are getting money, drugs and pussy from high school on if they can play. They get free education-mostly wasted on them-and can get away with pretty much anything if they are a blue chip talent.

Granted the special team guys and non stars may be a different story, but again, making millions and talking about injustice doesn't work in most people's books.

There's also the fact that except for the week Trump shot off his mouth, the majority of players-including most black players-didn't take the knee shows they're not buying it either.

Kap's yapping about social injustice is based on a very small handful of unfortunate events that liberal media of course blew up into the sky. If these people were truly concerned with young black lives they would address the real issue which is not the police or racism, but their own culture....

Mothers with three kids from three fathers and none of the fathers present or they're in prison. The mother either on the system taching them its okay, or working her ass off and now there's no one to keep the kids out of trouble.

the gangs scooping these kids up younger and younger and offering them 'the way out' the endless black on black violence etc....this is what needs to be addressed. They need to look at the source and get out into the community and help there at the start.

The fact that 99% of black bodies in the street are put there by other black bodies is the real and tragic issue. They're committing genocide, but no, lets start race baiting and riots and protests over racism because....

Liberalism encourages everyone to blame racism and whites for all their problems. So lets hype on that and kneel for the anthem instead of getting to the real issue.

LC answered this before I did, or I would have said just about the same thing. Big-time professional athletes are probably the most entitled and cossetted people in the USA, beginning when they were outstanding athletes in high school. The only disagreement we have is that I believe that also applies to special teams players and non-stars.

Professional athletes are far from entitled.

You're setting your definition of entitled as anyone who makes a million dollars? That would include lots of executives at Fortune 500 companies. Do athletes get away with stuff before they turn pro? Some certainly do. Do some rich kids who turn out to be millionaires also get away with stuff before they're members of the workforce & even after? Sure do.

I'm going to go on record as saying cops & soldiers should make more, but it's much easier to be a cop or soldier than it is to be a professional athlete. Professional athletes have spent years developing skills and talents to get to that level of performance and in most cases the slightest decline would put them out of work. I'm not saying being a cop or soldier is easy, I'm just saying you don't have to spend a lifetime developing certain skills to be a cop or soldier.
